I'm at a loss as to what to get dh for Christmas. He loves coffee so I was thinking of one of these machines. I've always stayed away from them because of the expense of the coffee cups themselves. Are they worth the $ and is it significantly more (in terms of the cost of the coffee) than a traditional maker? Thanks!

If he drinks alot of coffee than yest it is more expensive. My DH bought me one for Christmas last year. I am the only one that uses it. I use it when he travels and is not here to make the coffee in the mornings. So for me it is worth it since it is not used everyday.

My IL's have a larger version. They buy the cups in large quantities online and save some $'s that way. They get the tea and hot chocolate as well. I am a hot chocolate snob and do not care for it made with water.

Yes it is more expensive. But for me it is worth every penny!

Love the Keurig and every cup it makes is great.

DH bought one and loves it !! I do not drink coffee, don't even like the smell, so this is perfect for our house. I can get an 18 cup pkg on sale for $8.50 at Macy's, so less than 50 cents per cup. On line deals are cheaper, maybe 30+ cents a cup. Cheap, compared to the coffee shops, plus so much variety !! If you don't need all the bells and whistles, you can get a machine for around $100 (little less) and a few packs of coffee for $30. The machines come with a sample pack, so you may let him try and then buy !!

If you ge the machine, but a "My K-Cup" for it as well. This allows you to use your own coffee instead of buying the pre-made cups. Much more affordable than buying the pre-made cups plus you can use coffee you prefer.

We love our Keurig. It's definitely worth it. :)

I love the Keurig! My 2nd one should be delivered sometime today. My first one lasted exactly 2 years. I almost didn't replace mine after reading all the recent reviews, but i'm hoping this one lasts longer than my first one. It seems like a lot of them just die.
I mostly use the my K cup in mine. I like Dunkin Donuts coffee and can use my own that way. My kids love the hot chocolate cups and the machine is so easy for even them to use.

I go gotta go with I love mine too. I am the only one that drinks coffee at my house, so a regular pot never worked well for me.

I love mine for all of the reasons stated above! We're huge coffee drinkers - a full pot in the morning & sometimes a half pot later in the day. So we don't use the Keurig on a dily basis. It's GREAT for entertaining - everyone can choose their tea of coffee. I also use it if DH is away for work & I don't want to brew a large amount.

The cheapest K-cups I've seen are at Kohls or Kohls.com. They often have the box on sale for $9.99, and then I use the 30% off code or coupon on top of that.

I say go for it & get it!

I would not want one. The cups alone are usually a min. of .50 each. I no longer drink regular coffee and prefer the stronger Americana or a good Latte. Regular coffee means more cups needed to drink!

But I know a lot of people like them. I just think they are too expensive and I would rather spring for really good beans and a nice espresso/cappuccino machine.

My Dad asked for one for Christmas and I have been debating getting him one... :) its so hard to decide... Anyone know where the best buy is on the machine itself???

I've had my Keurig for 4 years now. I'm actually the first person most folks know that got one. I used a hotel mini one at Hard Rock Hotel and loved it. I came home and searched it out and found the basic one. There are many newer ones since then. Actually since it's normally .50 a cup (sometimes less), I don't find it expensive at all. I use to have mine in my office for many years, but recently retired and brought it home. You have to be creative when buying coffee. I only like Caribou Blend or Tully's Kona. Whenever we get a coupon we buy coffee. This week I got a $10 off of $10 for pennys so will go and buy 2 boxes of coffee and it will cost $5 per box after the coupon. Sometimes I buy it at my local BonTon store when they have a $10 off of $25 purchase. I buy 3 boxes and they end up costing me $6.65 each. I only use my Keurig when I want a cup of coffee mid-day. In the morning the 2 of us still use our Bunn.

I'm not trying to insult you folks that love this, but am I the only person who thinks the coffee tastes just slightly above instant? I would say the same thing about Starbucks' Via.

Usually Im a sucker for gadgets, but this one doesnt make sense for me. Every morning I start off with a big travel mug of coffee. I would have to make two cups of coffee to fill the travel mug.

I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond yesterday with every intention of buying a Keurig, but instead ended up buying a Tassimo. What did it is there was an employee making drinks for people to try and I got a cappucino and it was really good! Since I wasn't looking to replace our coffee maker (DH & I each have a cup at home, then a travel mug for the road every morning), but one for occasional evening drinks, or for when he's travelling and I don't feel like making a whole pot. Since most of our "fun drinks" are cappucinos, lattes and hot chocolate I was swayed since the Tassimo foams the creamer while the Keurig doesn't. Plus, it is more compact and I have very little counter space, so an appliance better be awesome to get a spot on my counter!

Edited to add: With the 20% off coupon and the $50 rebate, I spent about $85 on it.

Is it could be what you're used to drinking as brewed coffee. If you brew high end coffees, then you might think the K-cups are a lesser quality taste. We make so much coffee in our house that for it to be affordable we use Maxwell House, Eight O'Clock or Folgers - so to us the K Cups are much higher quality. I've never had one that tasted like instant or anything close, but then again you can see I've got a "Maxwell House" palate!

Someone else mentioned Tully's Kona - OMG to die for! I like my coffee black & dark roast - Tully's Kona is a treat for me.

I do find that the hot chocolate K cups are gross. My kids love them, but I think they're weak & not very flavorful.

I don't drink hot tea but my BFF does & she loves to come over & pick out her tea K Cup, and she says they are wonderful.

I'm with Tar Heel on this. DH bought one and really tried to like it but for me it was like drinking hot water and after DH tried tons of coffee he agreed with me. I would rather have one cup of really good coffee a day than cup after cup of this.
So for anyone considering buying one think about what you are used to drinking and try and taste some from somewhere before you buy one to make sure it's what you really want to drink. Taste is relative and this is too expensive to get based on what other people like.

While I love the Keurig, I really haven't found a coffee they offer that I like. I just use my own coffee in it. The varieties i've tried all seem way too strong for my liking or just have a horrid aftertaste.

Why not just buy a small single cup coffee maker like many resorts have in the room. Get him his favorite flavored beans and a coffee grinder. Then he can have whatever flavor he wants for each cup.

Way cheaper, just as easy to make and better for the environment.
