Opinions on getting Fastpasses for rides with single rider lines

I’m trying to decide ahead of time which Fastpasses to get when I’m there and I’d like to get opinions on this because I’m not sure about all of these.

Hyperspace Mountain- I’ve used the SR line for regular Space before and it has worked absolutely amazing. I assume that’s still the case and I don’t need to get any FPs for it?

Star Tours- Apparently it has a SR line now. Does it work well? Isn’t it only open part of the day?

Matterhorn- This has worked well in the past. Is that still the case?

Indiana Jones- I tried this SR line once and eventually just gave up because it was terrible. Is it better now?

Splash Mountain- I’ve had mixed experiences with this one. I think I’ll probably get FPs sometimes but what do other people think about it?

Millenium Falcon- This ride doesn’t have FP but is it better just to do the standby in the middle of the day especially if I really want to be pilot?

Grizzly River Run- I’ve done this a few times and it’s never very long. I don’t think I’ll get a FP for it.

Radiator Springs Racers- Sometimes this SR line is kind of long but it seems to move by fast and one time when I got a FP it seemed like a waste. But does anyone feel different?

Incredicoaster- I never know with this one. It seems it’s always really long or really short and it always breaks down.

Anyway, which of these rides should I view differently as far as getting FPs go? I like doing these thrill rides many times and I want to make sure I’m able to.

Honestly it sounds like you have it pretty well handled. I've never been a fan of the Indiana Jones SR line. Haven't done the Millenium Falcon one but I agree with pretty much everything else you've already said.

For Indy and Matterhorn, I would get a fastpass for those. They are both prone to breaking down. Also, Matterhorn is only running one side, so the stand by and single rider have been pretty backed up lately. For Incredicoaster, I am not a fan of having to wait in the direct sun, before going to the ride. So I will usually fastpass that one. Also, this can break down a lot, but it just depends. It doesn't break down as much as Matterhorn and Indy though.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that Star Tours got rid of its single rider line?

I didn’t know Matterhorn was only running one side. Do you know when the other side will be running again?

According to the Disneyland app, ST still has a SR line but maybe that’s wrong?

According to the refurbishment schedule for Matterhorn, it says nothing on whether the closures now are addressing the closed track. From what I've heard from watching some videos is that it's undergoing routine maintenance, which makes me think they are not working on repairing the side that's closed; however, we don't know that for sure and it could open back up on November 2nd. So in a round about way of answering your question, it is TBA.

I don't think they said. Hopefully it will be fully running by mid-December when the large holiday crowds come in. If it's 90 minutes now it will probably be 300 minutes during the capacity days lol

When I am at DL I usually often do SR. (And read pretty much all the threads here about SR...:rolleyes1)

So, Splash mountain. I didn’t do that one very often but last summer SR was pretty great (FP works pretty good as well) I read here the tip to check the lengths of line first. It sometimes even reaches the Post ride photo room and I wouldn’t wanna wait that long. The CMs are sometimes way to good in filling the logs without SR.

Indy: never tried it myself but it doesn’t sound like it is very good from what I have read... and I don‘t think it improved.

Millienium falcon: I‘ve never been on it so far but I‘ve read along the SWGE mega thread and many posted their experiences there... even if you go with the regular queue you are not guaranteed to ride as pilot because they often just fill you in like a SR. Depending on the CM you could ask for it but don’t count on it.

space mountain: I only ride it during MM and do all my repeats then. I read that the SR line isn’t als ways open so you have to ask for that.
Cant say anything about Matterhorn either... never did SR there because last time I was there and it was open there wasn’t a long line at all so we did the regular queue.

grizzly river: we always do SR there and it works great! They sometimes temporarily close the line because it is to long...but that didn’t take long (grab a churro or some ice and try again)

Radiator springs racers... We (family of 3) do SR about 90% of the times we ride it. I don’t wanna waste a FP for it (only when I want to time it... for night rides or so). SR always worked very well for us.

incredicoaster: that’s a tough one and I didn’t use SR the last couple of times because the line was to long for my liking and I did FP... if the line goes out of the gate than I wont do it. I only do it when there are just a couple of people waiting before the elevator ride.

and yes we do many repeat rides as well. That’s why we love SR. I try to grab FPs for those rides without SR “first” and plan around those. But if there is a convenient return time for a ride with SR we sometimes do that as well... just depends on availability and our plan for the day.

Star Tours
I did Single Rider at the start of July 2019. You go through the shop and up the exit ramp. Cm's will stop you along the way,say you are doing Single Rider and they will let you continue. When you get to the top of the ramp, at the pod exits the CM's working the exits will escort you to a podium. When the next pod rotations happen, once the entry doors are closed, you get escorted to whichever pod has an empty space in a row. Not many people know about single rider as its not advertised in any way, but depending on the time of day, the pods could be full and you may have to wait a few rotations.

Indiana Jones
I too tried it and gave up. Didn't try it in July 2019, as it was such a disaster in July 2018. I Fastpass this now.

Millennium Falcon
Did single rider 5 times in July 2019 and got all 3 positions. The trick is to only stay in the single rider area when the end of the line is at the top of the first lot of steps. If the end of the line is backed up to the main corridor before the split, its not worth it.

Radiator Springs Racers
I always single rider this. In July 2019 I did single rider twice in 20 minutes, you just have to time it right. When I am exiting the ride I make sure to check where the end of the single rider line is. If the end of the single rider is at or near the umbrella where the CM is, then I walk with purpose out the exit and back in again.

FWIW, a friend used to always get a FP for Space Mountain the moment his AP was scanned. Somehow he wasn’t aware that the attraction had a single-rider option. Once he tried the SR line, he never drawn another FP for SM. So at least in the case of that attraction it might be better to save your FP for something else. I know that I rarely wait more than five minutes as a SR for SM (or HSM, as it is now :-)).

Space Mountain's SR is subject to availability. It's not always open, and sometimes it may be open but not advertised. I would FP that one (although on a totally different tangent, I think the ride is incredibly overrated... ;) ) RSR is the best SR line IMO. Even if it looks long, it tends to go quickly as the ride loads 3 across, and typically people come in even numbers. I've only ever heard horrid things about SR for Indy and Splash. These are always rides we FP for.

For MFSR you may want to go through the regular queue once just to see it. The SR line bypasses the garage/workshop, the walkway looking back out onto the Falcon and the room with Hondo. If you are using the Datapad there are also missions you can complete in the regular queue.

Not really much guarantee either way of getting pilot. I got pilot when I went through the single rider line and tried to give it away but no one else in my group wanted it (it was two parties of two and myself and another SR who had the other pilot card so I think the other parties just didn't want to split up).
