Operation Christmas Child

This is something we participated in for years at our church. We personally don't do it anymore because I became frustrated with the constant bombardment of glossy mailings appealing for donations. It's not so much that I felt that the causes themselves weren't something I cared to support, I just had to wonder how they could afford such a large volume of expensively-produced mailings. Heck, the electric company, cable company, Macy's, auto insurance, etc., either try to force you into paperless billing or some want to charge you to receive your bill through US mail.

It is a religious charity
I think maybe from what I am reading in the UK it was not originally promoted as such?
Here it is done through churches mostly -there was never any question on my part of what kind of organization it is.

I really don't know if it's appropriate to discuss on this forum - here in the UK it's promoted as a religious charity helping kids in 3rd world countries which is why so many people were really keen to donate, however there has been a lot of negative coverage on the news about the way in which the gifts are given and the conditions imposed on the recipients. It has been reported that a number of schools have stopped working with the charity due to the controversial views of the organisation with regards to other religions etc.

If you google campaign against Operation Christmas Child you'll see some artivles relating to this.

I'm not against giving, in fact we do a lot of charity work, however I don't support any organisation using gifts for children to promote their views to the vulnerable. My personal feeling is that giving should be done with no strings attached.

Sorry if I've offended anyone - that was not my intention.
