Yesterday the maintenance guy came to fix my thermostat....while he he discovered the system needed to be bled, so he called the plummer who came over.

While here, the plummer took the restrictor plate off my shower head.

While bleeding the pipes, the maintenance guy and the plummer walked through every room of my house putting their hands on the radiators to see which ones were hot, had water moving etc..

Last night I was talking to a good friend of mine who doesnt clean her house very often. I'm not sure if her shower curtain has ever been changed in the 8 years she's lived there. She made a comment regarding them walking through the house, and checking the radiators- something to the line of

"omg I would die if they moved my couch"

then when i said- hey I got my water pressure in my shower fixed, she said she'd have to take the day off before they came to clean the bathroom before she'd want a stranger in that room working on something.

It got me thinking. I didnt know they were coming yesterday to fix my thermostat, matter of fact, I came home to the maintenance guy outside getting ready to come up and swap thermostats. I didnt even think twice about the cleanliness of my apartment...and I didnt know that some plummer was coming.....but I actually said to my friend, why dont you clean your house, then you wont have to worry about it...of course that brought on the "i dont have time, nobody would keep it clean etc."....I just rolled my eyes and said- whateva...she's always making comments when she comes here like "you must spend all your time cleaning" which honestly I dont...but we all pick up after ourselves, and all 3 of us do a "10 minute tidy" from the big comfy couch before bed LOL....

Do you clean before someone comes to fix something in your house?

You talkin to me?

Naw seriously I don't have to. You could eat off my floors and I don't spend my time cleaning. I am just constant with my piddling. I take pride and satisfaction out of my clean home. So I wouldn't have cared. Last week my landlord gave me less than 24 hours notice to have a realtor in to take pics. to put the house on the market. The realtor objected, said she needed it clean etc. boy was she surprised when she came the next day. Me anal no way!!

I have pictures of all my kids in plain view in everyroom, so that everyone who enters my house knows why it's so messy/dirty. I don't think maintence people or plumber really care how messy/dirty the house is. There is always another house they will enter that is messier/dirtier than yours. Anyways, who cares, it's not like you are know these people socially.

I'm very tidy - but not that clean, especially in the nooks and crannies. Generally I can have last minute company without worry, but if someone was going to look at my tub or shower I might think twice. If I was going to put my house on the market today, I'd need two hours to scrub the floors, sinks, tubs, and toilets - then I'm good to go.

LOL. I'm the opposite. DH is a slob, and I've since given up trying to keep up after him. I work full time, have a long commute and a dog to take care of. But, I really do make sure that I have a clean kitchen, a clean bathroom and clean floors.

Well, they could call management or the health department depending on cleanliness/filth issues.

I guess if you own your home it would be a bit different, though.

Well, I'm not Mrs. Clean by a long stretch, but the house is in general good order most days. No matter how much you clean though, when you have cats there will always be a surprise hiding somewhere...and usually when you least expect it. Nothing like a huge hairball in the middle of the family room when you have guests over...that wasn't there 2 minutes before they walked in the door!

Wow, I can't even imagine and I'm not near as busy as you. There always seems to be something I haven't bothered with. The top of the fridge, the stove hood, behind the toilet, etc. There's clean enough and then there's ready to sell the house clean.

I'm very clean and tidy. Right my floors could use mopping and vacuuming, but I just had guests for coffee and wasn't embarassed to put it in perspective.

Under normal circumstances give me ten minutes and the Realtor could hold an open house.

My house is usually pretty clean, which is good because I have a habit of forgetting when people are coming to do things to my house. I have been embarrassed a few times because I had early appointments and hadn't made my beds yet because I simply forgot they were coming.

The way I figure it, in all the different houses they must see in a day, there has GOT to be at least one that is worse than mine! :earseek:
