This is really fun to watch. My daughter and I got to the mall very early and were the first ones in line this morning at the Disney Store.

I believed that the first in line got to open the lock with the magic word and we were excited.

Someone toward the end of the line walked her daughter up to the front and told the sales lady that today was the child's birthday. The sales lady ignored my daughter and allowed the other child to open the lock. Another little girl was also celebrating a birthday and was in line ahead of this child too.

We had waited an hour in line. The other mother and daughter arrived much later. Today was also the day 90 Frozen Elsa costumes came in, so the line was long.

I know it was her birthday and she was very cute, but we feel sort of cheated and a little sad.

Sorry, I guess I just needed to vent a little.

Apparently, it is not the first person in line who gets to open the lock.

Not discounting your feelings by any means, but I would never have even thought about this. How did you even know the Disney store did something at opening?

They do this every morning at the Disney store. DS has done it about 6 times. I have done it myself twice. No one but myself was there those mornings. Your child gets a souvenir key for opening the store too. It is supposed to be the first child to arrive and waiting. No leaving and coming back. They only give out one key no matter what. The first time DS did it they didn't give him the key and I asked about it the next time I went (after they did the opening) and they told me only one key per day that's it. So I couldn't get his key then.

Picture of the key you get to keep for opening the store.
(Sorry for huge pic but you get to see detail.) :goodvibes

Yes, she really wanted that little key. Thanks for posting the picture. We got a really good look at it. :)

I guess we will go and try again. Hopefully there won't be any pushy moms around this time.

eBay! I did a quick search & found the Disney store key on eBay. True buying the key from eBay is not as fun as going to the store but maybe you could make your own magic with a key gift
The key is really cute, it would be a great way to tell someone they are going to Disney or I think it would make an adorable Christmas tree ornament.

oh wow thank you chitownfamily! :goodvibes I don't know why I did not think of that.

We have a Disney Outlet here and they do it a little different. The kids try to wake the toys, then the chosen child tries on Sorcerer Mickey's cape and they try again, then they add Mickey's hat and the kids try again. A little book lights up and they open the store. The child is given a lanyard with Sorcerer Mickey on it.

The key is pretty cool!
