Open water is no joke...

Last time we were there a few years ago, we took a nice day long snorkel trip to Lanai and had a great time. Lots of great spots and no other boats around fighting for reef time. I little deeper water than many people like I think.

We are headed back at the end of October this year and are doing 4 days in Honolulu before we fly over to Maui but am so looking forward to it. I always say, if we could get work over there............we would just move there.
so jealous. i am NOT a caribbean girl. go figure that the hurricane seasons decided to start the earliest it has in 3 years the ONE year we decide to go back to caribbean in 10 years!!! i am planning my maui trip as we speak for next year. i want to do what we did in 2013 which was 15 days split between big island and maui. i'm in LOVE with hawaii. i never worry bout the weather there. lol

the good thing about the caribbean for us is that it is so close and our DD loves the disney cruise.

This will be my 6th time back to Hawaii and it is over 12 hours of flying to get there which really makes it tough on the kids and the time change. We find it takes 2 good days just to get used to the local time.

We do miss some of the great places over there to visit and eat. Wailea weather as you say is most always nice.

If you haven't been to the Greek isles, I would highly recommend that as well.

Steve Irwin also took a lot more chances with wild animals than he should have. He was sometimes a bit cocky about interacting with wildlife. If he would have been more of an observer than an interactor he wouldn't have gotten bit, stung, sprayed, and kicked as much as he did. I've swam with all kinds of creatures before (including a shark once) and the majority of them aren't interested in you in the least. I love sting rays and manta rays. They are gentle and as long as you don't move aggressively towards them you will be fine. And as others have mentioned, shuffle a you walk through water.
