Open should mean open

I don't like that some rides and eateries close well before the park, especially during EMH.

If a park is open, everything in that park should be open.

What do you think?

I'd rather they were all open too. However I understand that some rides need more down time, for cleaning and fixing, than other do. I'm happier with EMH with some of the rides running that I would be with no EMH at all.

I disagree with the OP. everything open means more staff they have to pay, more food that probably would be wasted, etc. that ultimately would end up increasing park admission prices.

you don't have to go to EMH

I'm not sure what things you're referring to since we don't tend to stay at the parks "too late" (hit it at RD then usually back to the resort for a swim by 6 or 7).

However in some cases like the Safari I know it needs to close before dark so they can have time to get all of the animals inside. That to me is a logical reason to close at a certain time / not be open for evening EMH.

With respect to EMH in particular, I sort of view that as bonus time anyway, so it doesn't really bother me -- particularly as long as the headliner attractions remain open. Now if they closed everything except for Country Bears, Tiki Room, Magic Carpets and Small World, I might be a little irked. :)

They are extending you an opportunity as a guest to take advantage of something totally at no cost to you (at an increased cost to them), that you are not required to participate in and does nothing but add value to your vacation.

I think if someone hears they might get a sprinkle of pixie dust, they demand to be lathered in it until they have had enough, then you better stop lathering them in pixie dust you you'll be overdoing it.

If Splash Mountain hadn't been "traded" for Tiki Room, I might agree with you.

Disagree.

I think that in a perfect world, that would be the expectation. But Disney is, after all, a business. It's both inefficient and bad business to leave everything in the park open during a time of day when you know that you don't have the capacity to warrant it.

It would be different if they told you everything would be open and then you got there and it wasn't. But Disney is pretty clear in keeping people informed about exactly what is open during EMH, or mornings at Epcot or during rain or whatever.

If you only want to go to the park when everything is open, that's up to you.

:earsboy:

During EMH the park is not officially open. This is "Extra Magic Hours" and is technically intended for Resort Guests to be able to take advantage of some (not all) attractions while the general public is not admitted.

Most of the time I'm ok with it.

The only time it really bugged me was when I was in MK for the evening EMH, just finished riding BTMRR and was hungry. I really wanted some popcorn but the only place open in the area was Pecos Bills so I ended up with a burger instead.

This does bring up an interesting question - is World Showcase open for evening EMH? I need to check into that since I'm thinking of doing Epcot on an Evening EMH night and wanted to shop in World Showcase then. Time for some quick research since I'm going to be in Orlando tomorrow. LOL

Sure, I'd love to see the whole park open. However, I understand that that's never really what EMH were. They've always been marketed as special attractions being open for resort guests to enjoy. I think us Disney fans have sort of changed this to mean the whole park will be open- all shops, restaurants and attractions and that's simply not the case.

I know I'm definitely guilty of this. In January I couldn't understand why some of the pavilions were closed during EMH in Epcot though in reality, it makes sense those wouldn't be open if only select attractions are.

.

I disagree that its at no cost to the guest-it's built into our package price. I do think the general EMH marketing is that the park is open for extra hours which to me would be all rides and that somewhere in the small print it talks about limited rides etc.
I'm happy as long as the headliners and others with a long wait are open otherwise it looses the value of it-I don't need to get in early to ride the people mover:)

Everyone pays for EMH through their resort rooms, tickets, food and merchandise. I don't for a second believe Disney eats that cost. It is passed on to park guests.

They've never had every single thing in every park open during EMH. Even when you had to pay for EMH or its equivalent back then...they didn't have every single attraction/restaurant open.

At any rate during EMH the park is not "open" in the sense that it is open to the general public. It's a perk for resort guests. If this had been about closing attractions, stores and restaurants during general public hours (which the parks do sometimes anyway) I might feel the same way, or at least part of the same way. I see them cutting back on shows a lot, to the extent that they don't do some shows on certain days at all. I get why they do it, but of course it would be better if they had every show operating on every day.

•The American Adventure
•Grand Fiesta Tour
•The Maelstrom

Probably only shops that are in those buildings are open, not sure.

Each day, select attractions are open longer at one of the theme parks

I suppose I should have left out any mention of EMH since that is not really the debate I wanted to start. Although it's my personal opinion that everything should remain open for them also.

So ... excluding EMH and AK attractions (due to animals) open should mean open.

It just sucks to get hungry at 8:30pm at HS, when they are open until 9, and have all but one place to eat shut down ... many of them as early as 5 or 6.

I don't buy that Disney shouldn't have to pay for extra staffing. If you pay to get into a park, they should pay to keep it open for the advertised hours. All of it.

They wouldn't pay...you would. You'd see it reflected in the ticket prices. Of course if we're all willing to pay more...wonder how much more we would all we willing to pay.

Exactly. Let's not forget Disney is a for-profit enterprise. If closing selected restaurants and rides early caused enough people to stop going to the parks because they feel like they are not getting their money's worth, Disney would probably do things differently. As it stands, it sounds like Disney is making a judgment that inconveniencing a few people who might want a pretzel instead of a burger before closing time is a business risk it is willing to take instead of raising ticket prices for everyone, or (God forbid) lessening the profit margin. ;)

I think they do it so that some of the workers at the different rides/restaurants can have earlier days!! I know my sis did CP at Backlot Express in HS and there were days when they closed earlier than others (and sometimes open for EMH but I think usually not)! But if they keep one restaurant open until park close one day then they might give them the next day to close earlier. Dunno but I think there is enough to do that it's fun!! Although having to get a burger when you just want a light snack would be annoying, especially at Disney prices!!

:D
