Open Letter to the Guy Who *Purposefully and Gratuitously* Screamed in the Haunted Mansion Elevator

That idiot deserved a punch in the face. I've been to Haunted Mansion at Disney World many times and never experienced anyone screaming like that, thank goodness. I have very sensitive ears due to a disorder and that would have been physically painful to me. Some morons don't know that sudden loud sounds can actually hurt other people. There's definitely a decibel difference between the typical startled or excited yell on a ride, and someone purposefully screaming at the top of their lungs.

Is that a Disneyland thing, since so many here are reporting it's not uncommon there? We've been to DL once but I think we skipped Haunted Mansion. That was probably a good thing in hindsight. Hearing testimonies of this happening often there, & of people talking loudly in rides there as if they're not even interested in the ride, make me think it might be a good thing the DL annual passes aren't going to return in their old form. Maybe too many locals think of DL as just a place to hang out & goof off. When something is given to you so easily & cheaply, it's easy to not appreciate it.

It all happens at WDW as well. Definitely puts a damper on things. Though I've also been on ToT at WDW with a women that legit was scared screaming. I felt bad for her and the photo, omg. It was clear she'd been dragged on the ride. And that is just as bad, whether it's a scared to death woman screaming or a kid crying and the parent telling them over and over to stop it, as the person screaming in the stretching room or reciting the dialogue, just for different reasons. I feel so awful for the people of any age that are forced or tricked onto a ride they don't want to go on.

I've never had anyone scream in the stretching room but here lately it seems like more and more people are on their phones in PotC and HM. It upsets when we get to the Crystal Ball in HM and there is always someone taking flash photography.

I am sorry you and your son had to go through that. It makes me think how differently we are all affected and how some of use aren't aware of the impact our actions might have on others.

I was in line for incredicoaster saying that it felt odd not having at least one person scream in the stretching room on one of my times through. I chalked it up to the lowered capacity at that point, but was saying how I missed that sort of carefree energy. I have never been one to do that sort of thing, but I also never would have thought about how that might have a negative impact on others on the ride.

As for the pirates experience, I don't think you need to be too empathetic to know that you are just running over other peoples' experiences when you do that sort of thing.

I hate when people do that and it does seem to happen a lot on HM. Some of the superfans don't realize that they are ruining it for others. It's one thing to react or give a little squeal, but the folks who are waiting for that moment to let out an earth-shattering scream are really doing a disservice to everyone else in the room.
Superfans are often the worst guests, with complete disregard toward other guests.
Josh D’Amaro (Chairman of Disney Parks) mentioned superfans in an LA Times interview:
The annual pass program — which was canceled in January and which experts blamed for some of the parks’ crowding problems — will be replaced with a membership program that “will reflect the behavior of our superfans,” D’Amaro said, adding that more details will be released “relatively soon.”

I have found it to be true, especially at Disneyland, that there is a subset of guests who act like they own the place. I get that they grew up going there and they know every little intricacy and shortcut. It's unfortunate though that it can impact other guests. It is by far not the majority, but I always notice it a little bit with some people.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to alarm. He’s 20 but on the spectrum so I worry. But he turned off his location so I knew he didn’t want me to follow him. He texted us to have a good time. I scored Webslingers for this afternoon for him.

The hug & the Dole Whip were for you. 😆

The Pirates one drives me crazy. Why do people ride if they are just going to loudly chat about other stuff the entire time? You don’t need to wait in line to do that! Just find a bench or table and talk away!

That is exactly what I was thinking! Unfortunately it happens a lot on Pirates.
the biggest problem is that many guests consider these rides and attractions as rest breaks to get out of the heat, rain or crowds - same with mickey's philharmonic, carousel of progress and the epcot spaceship earth and individual country films. So they chatter away, clueless or uncaring that others are there to EXPERIENCE THE ATTRACTION.

nope...occurs many times in WDW - on HM, TOT and the one that ticks me off the MOST - soarin...which is supposed to be relaxing and uplifting. Low rent people think it's fun to scream at the top of their lungs for prolonged periods on that one too - have ruined my ride 2x - after waiting in long lines to ride it.

So I just watched several you tube videos and tons of people scream each time after the hanging scene scream. Was this guys scream just insanely loud or something? Its seems like screaming in haunted houses is something people do. Not discounting, just curious.

Interesting. I've never been in the stretching room without multiple people "screaming" in some fashion. It's even worse during halloween. I suppose my family is guilty of "screaming," but my kids get a kick out of it so............

I agree. If it's over the top then that's ridiculous, but the world is full of inconsiderate people. My suggestion would be to wait until the end of any day. HM is always something we do last as the park is closing. You avoid the cattle move through the hallway and have extra space in the stretching room.

What you are talking about is normal. What the OP and the rest of us are talking about are the ones that scream super loud way before anyone else gets the "jump scare" and they think it is hysterical.

It seems like about half the time when I go on that ride, there are people reciting the entire thing loudly and then screaming. It's much more common during the Halloween festivities. It's always very annoying.

The worst ride for over screaming seems to be Guardians. I think people go on that ride with an intent to scream the entire time. I've had my ears ring for long periods afterward, which is a shame because it's my favorite ride. I did eventually learn that if I sat in the back row, there wouldn't be anyone directly behind me screaming into my ear. Still, it would be nice if they had a posted non-screaming elevator. If people screamed on it, at least it would be legit vs. dramatic overscreaming.

If professionals have to spend hours and hours with a person prior to determining if they have special needs, I doubt if a person with no training in special needs spending a couple of minutes in a stretch room can make an accurate diagnosis.

Again...... You know full well the type of person that does this. I am very tired of arguing this point with you. You know what we are talking about so please stop being petty.
