Open Letter to the Guy Who *Purposefully and Gratuitously* Screamed in the Haunted Mansion Elevator

What is it with the POC ride? Do people think it is just a place to talk?
One time, my husband and I were first to the POC one morning. Another family got in behind us. The Mom talked loudly on the cell phone the whole time about insurance that the other person on the phone was wanting! The son sat behind us and kicked the seat constantly and yelled. The dad just sat looking anywhere but at them and didn't say a word! Not one word to the kid or Mom. I turned around and gave them the "look" but it didn't seem to bother them. I didn't want a verbal confrontation with them. But it was very annoying and ruined the ride for us. We could have told the CM when we got out I guess, but we never thought of it and were just glad to get away from them.

You are more polite than I am. I would have said something to them ("shut up" comes to mind lol). I would definitely do a "shhh" and then a "be quiet". If they didn't stop I would tell a CM that my ride was ruined and hopefully go again.

Our worst experience with screaming was on Star Tours. Riding with my nephew for the first time and he was only 4 at the time. He was very nervous about riding due to it being too dark or scary (after taking him on Big Thunder at night another time to the point at 8, he still talks about it --- big Mom and Auntie fail there). We had a group of probably 8-10 tween girls on the ride with us that screamed at the top of their lungs from the doors closing until the end. It was miserable for the adults and we super worried about my nephew being badly affected (become more scared as a result) by it. Thankfully, he liked it and was laughing and I guess tuning the obnoxious girls out. We were all still super annoyed by it.

I don't have the patience for this kind of stupidity and would definitely have said something to them (and the cast member).

I wish folks would just *think* about other people, good grief. OP, I'm so sorry that happened to your son. I loathe people reciting dialog loudly on attractions because, HEY, the world doesn't revolve around you and it could be someone near you's first time on the ride and you're ruining the experience for them. This thread has made me think about how much I scream on my fave (Matterhorn), though, and maybe I should tone it down a tad.

I think it is acceptable if it is a natural scream (thrilling parts, etc). People can tell the difference between that and someone who is just being super annoying. For example, I scream a bit on Tower of Terror, but I don't take it to the point of being ridiculous or screaming through the entire experience, or extend the scream longer than necessary - just on the sudden drops where it would be natural.

I legit scream on Tower of Terror -- every time I get that dropping sensation I can't help it, even though intellectually I know I'm safe. That's rarely something that would happen on Haunted Mansion, though.

You might consider asking a cast member if there is a DAS option to bypass the stretching room next time. I was once with an impaired guest who had to ride her scooter all the way to the doom buggies, and they took us down in our own private elevator. I am sure it is not easy for the cast members, but it sounds like it may be very helpful for your son.
