Well played, sir!
Profiling works to an extent, but when you acknowledge that you are not going to scan a group because they fit a certain profile, those wishing to go undetected will seek out those who fit the now ignored profile.
It has already started happening with terrorist organizations. By recruiting children and women, they now have access to a less likely perceived threat by authorities. Additionally, ones skin color doesn't define their likely hood of committing a crime, so a terrorist could easily be a white 25 year old female.
I am saying that we are a free people and have the right to question the new scanners. Some people don't have the option of not flying because their job requires it.
You absolutely have the RIGHT to question authority and question those who help permit laws that you feel invade your RIGHTS as a citizen, however, complaining on a forum or writing to Disney will have no effect on the situation.
I have no issues with the scanners and I think people have really blown the situation way out of scope.
I agree with you completely. Although people will tell you to get a new job. Like thats so easy in this economy. What jobs? I am a nurse I fight everyday for better nurse patient rations. I realize I am just crapping in the wind, but I don't plan on quitting just because I am unhappy with the working conditions. Its funny how people think its so easy to change careers or get a new job. If you quit your job in this economy your nuts.
I just sent a snail mail to:
Arthur M.M. Krolman
CFA Founder and President
Krolman Corporation
56 Roland St., Suite 201 Boston, MA 02129
..........and told him basically he's a nut for sending this to Disney. It'll probably come back from the PO as a qoogle search shows a different address for this corp. Urban legend?
My i suggest a job with the va it a gov job they are always looking for nurses and they pay good with great benefits. If you want to look go on usajobs.com click browse job click on the state you want then click occupations and scroll done to medical their our find all jobs with the gov in nurseing. Plus if ou want you can work at any fed propety and work under your same licsnse with out getting a new one.
I am trying to get through life without ever having to depend on the government. I don't want to start now. I am happy in the private sector. They pay me very well to be overworked. I would just like things to be better for the patients. I will continue to fight the good fight. Honestly me working for the government is pretty funny considering how I feel about government. Thanks for the suggestion though.
no problem you be surprised how many gov workers feel like you but just using them for the pay and benefits as long as your happy then that great.
If you mean "not viable because I live too far from Disney", well, um no.
In which case you can request the hand screening, or you can get a new job. Last time I checked, a specific job wasn't a constitutionally guaranteed provision.
Look, I'm not any happier about the security theater that currently comprises TSA than anyone else. But, while complaining to your congresscritter is a viable thing to be doing, in the meantime you can either fly under the current rules, or you can find some other way to get where you need to go.
Well, it's not actually a comparison - but to demonstrate that one can't necessarily determine a terrorist by appearance (age, gender, race, ect)? Both examples are reasonable. It's not blown out of scope for people that don't wan't it.
People who want to fly but don't want to go through the backscatter scanners have the option of being patted down. People who want to fly but don't want to go through the scanners and don't want to be patted down have the option of alternative transportation* - yes, even for work, even if it's inconvenient.jlewisinsyr said:I have no issues with the scanners and I think people have really blown the situation way out of scope.

Well, in the same vein, why do you care if DVC-Don cares enough to write a letter to a stranger [likely] effectively telling that person he's directing his ire at the wrong person/company? Robert Iger can't do anything about the TSA; Don's just trying to help.princesspeach said:Why do you care if he sends it to disney? I'm not saying its a good idea, but why waste your time just to call somebody a nut. Who cares?
Respectfully, do you know how much tax you pay for unemployment insurance right now? FUTA and SUTA?My neighbor quit his job as an airline employee because he was not happy. He has been out of work for 18 months. Bad descision. I don't think we should encourage unemployment. I don't want to pay more taxes to support all the unemployed. Maybe if there is ever jobs again. We can tell people that are unhappy to quit.
Nothing is ever, I repeat ever, deleted here unless it violates board guidelines.OP.....I agree 100% with your letter, but you better watch having an opinion on here, they will delete your stuff if you don't agree with them.....lol It just cracks me up, wonder if they delete people in real life that do not agree with them)
Hope he doesn't use Logan...they have the backscatter machines in use..used one last year.I see the Guy is in Boston. Someone should just tell him to Drive to DC and take the Autotrain.
Sooo..you're saying that if I oppose the way you think about the govt, I should move to Cuba?? That's kinda like saying 'move to Cuba'....I think you need to realize that 'tongue in cheek' doesn't cut it online, in a discussion board.Anybody that disagrees with you will tell you not to fly. That's the only solution that they can come up with. They will also tell you to leave the country. Personelly I think people that oppose people who oppose the government should move to cuba. Then they won't have to deal with people that oppose the government because they will all be in jail. Anyway I like your initiative at least you are being proactive. Thats what America is all about. I still believe in the power of the people and people should have a say in what laws are imposed on us.
I don't see anyone telling anyone not to fly....they are saying that people have a choice, in the vast majority of situations. Many of us don't care for the security proceedures but put up with it, and also try to get them changed at the same time. Not that it helps much, but we try.To those of you that can think of nothing better to say over and over than "If you don't like it stop flying". Its ok for people to oppose laws and still comply with them. I am sure there are some laws or policies at work that you don't agree with, but you still obey the rules. I doubt anybody is going to stop flying, because of this. That does not mean they cannot oppose it or fight to have it changed. We really don't wan't to encourage people not to fly. The economy is bad enough. Don't you think. I wish things were as simplistic as you make them out to be.
Nobody, not one person, has said your opinions don't count. I beleive I said that there are others, on this board, that really are very conversant in all things to do with the airlines. That did not mean that you are wrong..only that there are others out there who may be more in the know.I think she was referring to me on another thread. I have been told to have my dh find a new job,to quit flying, been told my opinions don't count because only my dh works for an airline and I don't, I have been accused of wanting people to die(that was my favorite). I will admit I got a little sarcastic and snarky. I have decided not to let my buttons get pushed so easily and temper my sarcasm. Some people are good at being disrespectful without being out right insulting. You just can't let them get to you.
your comparing a 25 year old women to a 85 year old grandma.

Personally I'm getting tired of this subject. There are now at least three threads dealing with it. Enough is enough. Either play nicely and get along, without namecalling or this subject will not be discussed here. This happens every single time this subject comes up. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...as long as it is voiced politely, with no name calling or insults.
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.
Ok mod I think I have been playing nice. I had apologized for any snarky comments I had made. Me an another poster were having a discussion tryng to explain each others comments and make ammends. Because we disagree you are going to continue to reprimand me. There is been nothing out of line on any of my posts. Don't worry you will not here from me again I am done here. I have enjoyed the discussion. Everything I said was true. I have no idea what your reading. I think their have been mulltiple posts with people with your position telling others not to fly. Sorry your sick of the topic. I actually thought it was kind of fun. Not the same old which resort do I stay at stuff. Have a good day. I promise not to bother you again.
Hi, kids. Sorry for getting into this so late.
Number 1. TSA agents who view the images of people in the backscatter machines are completely AND I MEAN COMPLETELY isolated from the machine itself. They have built soundproofed, windowless rooms for the person viewing the images. There is no way anyone could see an image of a certain person and know exactly who is being seen, aside from is it male or female.
Number 2. As I have said in another thread, the amount of radiation you get from being in your enclosed metal tube 35,000 feet off the ground is wayyyyyy more than you get from this backscatter machine.
Number 3. If ANY one of you can tell me exactly what a terrorist looks like, we would be all set, none of our TSA things would continue to exist. Might I remind you of Tim McVeigh (ex ARMY)...white kid, about 25 years old... How about the Unabomber? 50 years old white guy. I could go on for a while. So...if you all could point me to an exact description of a terrorist, I'd be more than happy to pass that along to everyone who needs to know. Until then, put up with the TSA guidelines.
I work for TSA
Wow, you admitted that here, with all these not so complimentary TSA comments??? I'm impressed.Hi, kids. Sorry for getting into this so late.
