I see many examples of people with condescending behavior, rude answers and somewhat snobbish behavior. It seems to be on the increase too (although not a scientific observation, just a gut feeling). I agree with the OP - there are people who just want to make themsleves automatically the big fish in the pond by pouncing on questions.

Get a life is all I have to say.

I do think that many touchy topics have already turned ugly in the past. Then another DISer starts that topic up again, often worded in a way that may raise hackles right off the bat. I have rarely (never??) seen an innocent question, with non-insulting wording, get attacked right off the bat.

That was my long answer.

My short answer is: I think there are some sore subjects. Anything questioning another's parenting, socio-economic status, upbringing, religious beliefs, or political leanings need to be brought up with care, and discussed with even more care. What I have seen a bit of very recently is topics that, right in the OP, are started off on the wrong foot. I have also seen quite a few new threads where OPs specifically asked for opinions, yet felt attacked by any and all posters who disagreed or failed to validate.

The fact is, this IS a message board. There are people on here from all kinds of backgrounds, with all sorts of values and beliefs. Gotta have a thick skin before starting threads that might flare out of control.

OOOPS... that's because I didn't insert blank lines to separate my ending ramble...hehe. The short answer was only the first sentence of the "short answer" paragraph.

My brain is fogged right now -- I am coloring in a Cabbage Patch Kids coloring book with dd, and breaking quickly to read & type.

Good thing I don't have time to take things personally, or I would be feeling quite picked on.

Maybe someone should count up the times that people don't flame and that offer advice, support, and other positive things. I think that happens way more often than flames. Is the glass half empty or half full? (I know, who cares as long as it's half filled with something good, right? )
