I have a few hrs to kill until time to go to my friend's house tnight and thought I start a thread for the fun of it:)

Earlier, I heated up the oven for some pizza. After I put the pizza in, my son asked for a drink.

So, I went and got him a drink and then was going to go back and set the timer for 15 minutes.

I ended up getting distracted, picking up some toys and then decided to check my email, while I waited for my pizza.

It seemed to me a like a long time had passed and my husband said, I am hungry. Is the pizza done yet?

I said, did the timer go off? He said, I did not hear anything.

Then it dawned on me, I never set the timer:scared1:

I ran to get it and it was a bit crispy, but not burnt yet

Whew, that was close

So, does anyone else have any OOPS moments to share?

I made a pot roast a few days ago, but by the time we went to eat, it wasn't fall-apart tender yet. So we cut some off for dinner, but I put the rest back in the pot to keep cooking. And I turned it up...

And forgot about it.

When I woke up the next morning, my first thought was 'who is cooking so early????

Yep. I'd left the pot roast in the crock pot on high all night. :scared1:

It literally looked like a giant lump of coal, surrounded by smaller lumps of coal that were once potatoes.

Go me!

My husband grabbed a 100 calorie pack of microwave popcorn, set the time for "popcorn" and left the room. Those things take WAAAY less time than the regular ones. It's been a few days and our house still smells. Thank goodness we weren't hosting Thanksgiving this year!

Oh man. Thank god it was a crock pot and not the stove...:scared1:

My mom put on a very big pot of boiling water to make spaghetti in before her husband got home from work.

When he got home, he said you wanna go out to eat and she said sure.,

She totally forgot pot was on and just left.

After they were done eating, they decided to run to Target.

After they were paying, they decided to get a cookie from their snack counter and were sitting down relaxing, when my mom remembered that pot

They ran out of there and drove faster than they have ever driven before and were home in record time

THe bottom of pot was white and water was almost gone.

A few more mins, and it would have started a fire:scared:

That has got to be the worst smell. I have done that when we used to live in apartment. It was horrible

Several years ago, I was putting on a pot of water for pasta and the phone rang. My husband answered it and hung up and said it was my parents' neighbor. My dad was having chest pains and he was going by ambulance to the hospital. So we dropped everything and rushed out of the house. When we came back, something smelled really bad. Yep, I left the water boiling. The pan was starting to burn. Luckily we got home in time and it didn't start a fire! Imagine your dad having a heart attack and then coming home to find your house burned down!

By the way, dad came through fine. That was at least 14 years ago and now he's 83 - does his woodworking in his garage and picks up my boys from school once a week when they have a minimum day and I have to work. He did have a bypass a few years after that incident, though.

Wow, that would have been awful

Glad you dad came through and is still active. That is great:goodvibes

Just wanted to give this a little bump

I am sure there are some other night owls out there, who have stories to share

:rotfl:

Oh yeah, sounds familiar.

The FIRST time I did it I was very pregnant so we blamed that. I put broccoli on to steam, without water in the steamer. I came out of the bathroom to a pan that was red hot on the bottom. What did I think to do??? Put water in it of course. I picked it up to turn to the sink. The bottom of the pan stuck to the burner, the steamer basket fell onto the brand new vinyl floor and rug burning it and I didn't have anything to put water in anymore. Fortunately the builder patched the vinyl for me and I was able to buy a new burner.

Advance a few years and I did it again. This time the entire pan melted onto the electric burner. I mean it oozed through the coils and onto the drip pan. By the way...new stove again. I lost 2 good Farberware sauce pans to broccoli.

Now I put the water in the pan first and always double check it.

I'm sure if I think about it I could come up with a few more examples of how dangerous I can be in the kitchen.

Oh wow, better the floor than you:scared1:

Will be waiting for anymore :surfweb:

Well, I just remembered the big pasta bowl I was hand washing that slipped and broke in two. One piece came flying up out of the water and cut my arm pretty deep. We couldn't get it to stop bleeding so I had DH drop me off and the nearby hospital. I got a few stiches but then they put me through the ringer because I have a lot of bruises on my arms. I have a couple chronic things and bruises don't heal or heal very slowly. Add that my DH didn't come in with me. Man, they were pushy. I guess they didn't want to let me go home to a potentially abusive husband. :rotfl2: Poor guy, he's more likely to be abused the me. ;) I didn't let him come in because it was his birthday and I wanted him to go home and have cake with our sons. He also had to leave early the next morning for a business trip and my son came to pick me up.

Oh man, I bet that must have been awful at the time, being questioned like that

But funny now :rotfl:

From the beginnning:laughing:

well, this *might* happen. so let's just say this is a tip I *might* have heard from someone.
DON'T try to fill small sample tubes with a lubricant type material on your kitchen counter at 4am. Your cat *might* try to jump on the counter, and he *might* knock the stuff all over.

He also *might* freak and jump on the kitchen table, leaving a trail.

And in your hurry, you *might* not notice the bottle dripping down the countertop, down the cabinets, to the floor.

And you *might* only notice when you see your other cat walk through it, leaving a trail to the living room.

And Dawn dishliquid *might* handle the clean up well;)
