oogly oogly... and the exploding carrot cake. May 27-30,2011 [quick mickey fix]

In March 2010, we made a most epic, however quite budgeted girl’s roadtrip from TX to FL in honor of our impending college graduation. We had a blast… we also slept on the floor in my sister’s Orlando apartment ½ an hour away from Disney, made peanut butter sandwiches in the MK parking lot, and drank Gatorade from the car. We were poor college students.

In March 2011, one day while reminiscing on the phone about everything that had happened in the past year we began joking about taking another quick trip and not telling anyone (aside from my husband… he kind of needed to know). But just hopping on a plane one day, going for a long weekend, and then coming home after a quick Mickey fix. But then we decided that it would be realistic and so QUICK MICKEY FIX GIRLS WEEKEND 2011 was born.

May 27-30, 2011.

A little about us:
us2.jpg

I am Jaci from Dallas. 22 years old, married my love of almost seven years in June 2010. Ex-military brat, Disney magic lover. Been to WDW 5 times & DL 1 time. Next on the list is a DCL cruise! I am an ex-preschool teacher (some things were not meant for me to do and enjoy. Teaching a class 14 two year olds was one of them!). I’m currently a part time nanny and recently started my own AdvoCare business. I’ve lost 30lbs in the last 11 weeks!!!!!
What I’m celebrating on this trip? Losing 20lbs and quitting my awful preschool job!

This is Tressa, my bestie and Disney partner in crime. We scheme a little too much sometimes  We were college roommates, sorority sisters, and she was the Maid of Honor in my wedding. We have a fun friendship filled with snark and eye rolling… and lots of laughter. Tressa is a kinder teacher and she’s pretty darn good at it. Some people ARE meant to do that in life and Tressa is one of them! She is a Disney fanatic and is the person I discovered my love for Disney through.
What is Tressa celebrating on this trip? Surviving her first year of teaching of COURSE!

So get READY for our crazy trip… dining plan, Pop century resort, and a 3 day marathon through Disney. Will we get exhausted? Who will we meet? and what's this about an exploding carrot cake?!

...I guess you'll see!

Friday, 12pm rolls around. I’m sitting in my classroom, surrounded by hyper (yet loveable) two year olds preparing for their post-lunch nap. The clock is ticking. I’m trying not to look. All of a sudden the classroom door opens and my substitute teacher walks in.

MICKEY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I practically sprint out of the school and screech out of the parking lot towards home. Onward!
My husband and I meet Tressa at the house and he drives us to the airport. We give him the peace sign and hop, skip, and jump towards our terminal.

Everything goes smoothly checking in, getting through security, getting a snack at TGIFriday’s in our terminal. We load into the airplane, and bunker down for a quick flight to ATL, and then a connecting flight to MCO!

I snapped a pic of us in the airport and posted it on facebook for all to see. Everyone seemed somewhat surprised and played a “where are Jaci and Tressa going?” guessing game. Of course most of them who knew us well enough know it was DISNEY WORLD!

Sadly the ONLY picture snapped on a camera was us in the airplane…

We spent our time watching trashy reality Netflix on the in-flight wireless, reading books, and giggling with excitement.

We made it to MCO and rode the practice monorail. We were exhausted already because it was almost midnight when we got to the ME check in line! We both took carry-ons because we only had 3 days of gear to pack, so we skipped baggage claim and got to the ME right away. There was no wait (it was so late) and we were escorted on the bus immediately with our bus mates… maybe 25 other people.
After giggling through the silly ME movie and dubbing some of the characters (“if you get evicted from Disney, cindy will help you pack your acorns!”), we drove under the WDW sign. We cheered & so did our bus mates and their too-excited-to-sleep children.

We made it to POP CENTURY. Check in was a breeze…

t003-1.jpg

We walked pretty quick to our 70’s room by the laptop pool… I barely remember anything after that. After our long day of traveling, I was out before my head hit the bed.

I apologize how boring our traveling day was, but we were very grateful it went off without a hitch!
Next chapter preview………. Why were storm troopers shooting at us? How we rode TSMM twice with hardly any wait, and the most delicious steak of my entire life!

I'm here! I've become addicted to TRs and can't wait to follow yours, too! :goodvibes

CHAPTER 2.1
After 5ish hours of sleep, we got a wake-up call. Tressa was super confused because it wasn’t a character wakeup call like we thought it would be.

All this is fuzzy because Jaci+less than 6 hours of sleep = cranky, confused, incoherent.

While I was rolling around under the covers praying the sun would go back down for another hour, Tressa was getting ready, chipper as can be. You see… she’s a morning person. I need an electric shock to get my tush out of bed in the morning. Yes, even at Disney! Finally I was up and fixing my hair & a little bit of makeup when she came in with this from the Pop Food Court:
t004.jpg

Tressa is the kind of person that needs a hearty breakfast. I am not so much. Recently coming into the nutritional field, I’ve learned the value of getting my metabolism jump started in the morning, so I drink AdvoCare meal replacement shakes. It was perfect because I didn’t have to spend any money for breakfasts… I just needed a little water. Anyway, back to less boring things. I can’t remember if Tressa had bought it yet or not, but at some point she got a refillable mug. We loved that thing!

So about 8:15 we caught the bus, hoping to be at Hollywood Studios before the park opened (supposedly opening was at 9) so we could mad-dash to TSMM while everyone else mad-dashed the new Star Tours. I didn’t really have a clue what a Star Wars weekend was, but I was in for a treat (my husband is the Star Wars guy… I caught myself a couple times being sad he wasn’t there to get his Star Wars fill!).

We get there at 8:30 and what happens? Well we see this…
t005.jpg

WHAT?! The park is open??????? And why are these Storm Troopers up there yelling at pointing guns at us?!

SIDE NOTE: I can’t remember if Tressa got a little panicky, but I can imagine it happening. You see, she and I have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOURING STYLES. That’s in all caps because I just shouted it at you. Just FYI.

Tressa is a little commando… a little “I want to see EVERYTHING”. Can you see how that might be a little problem during a 3 night stay? Yeah, me too. I’m more “I want to stop and smell the roses, I want to dance under the fireworks, I want to eat lengthy meals and enjoy the atmosphere”. We did a good job of finding a medium between these two style, I think.

Back to our goal. TSMM! I had ridden it at DL last Christmas and LOVED IT, but was not willing to get back into a 120 minute line to ride again. I was determined to ride TSMM once or twice on this trip because I loved it so much!

We get there and see this:

Glorious!

We run over to get FPs and a cast member steps in front of me and says “you know this isn’t for Toy Story Mania FPs right?”. I get a (snarky) crazed look in my eye and say “Don’t you lie to me!!!!!”. The three of us started laughing and she stepped out of the way. Yes, ladies and gentlemen… I stunned her with my humor rays. Don’t get in the way of me and my Toy Story ;) Anyway, we still were cracking up about our CM interaction when we hustled it over to the “20 minute” line and began chatting with a cute little family in line with us. 20 minutes really was more like 8 and we were on our way!

:welcome: They are quite addictive aren't they? Its really the only way to get our Mickey fix without actually GOING to the world or buying a truckload of stuff from the Disney store :)

:welcome:

Girl trips are so much fun! Can't wait to read more!

They really are! I hope one day when Tressa and I both have children of our own, our husbands will bo okay with us escaping to WDW annually :)

Hi everyone! Tressa here! I don't have a working computer so I'm forced to get creative...go to the library, use the laptop at school, etc. I'll get a new one eventually :)

Anyway, I wanted to say hi! Jaci has all the pictures/ability to post pictures so I'll let her do most of the talking. But I will go ahead a write about what happened next! Jaci, put the pictures in please!

We got off TSM and headed over to the Tower of Terror/Rockin Roller Coaster area. Tower of Terror had a 20 minute wait and we maybe waited 5? It was crazy fun of course! We got fast passes to ride it again later on. Then RRC had a 20 minute wait and we did actually wait probably 20 minutes but it gave us a chance to catch our breath and giggle about how amazing it was that we had hit the best 3 rides within half an hour. We got a really great picture of us on RRC which we took a picture of on the screen bc we are just so classy :)

I am always all about meeting characters and getting my autograph book filled up so we went to the animation building next to see who was hanging out. We met Donald and Minnie and saw stitch, tigger, mickey, and an incredible (I think?). Then we decided there wasn't much else for us to do at HS til later that night so we hopped on the friendship boat and headed to epcot! I'll let Jaci go from there!

Wow... I apologize for the 3 month hiatus.... EEK!

New update coming in 3...2...1....

We went over to the TOT line, but saw this on the way. Skywriter!
001.jpg

The wait was 10 minutes! We got so lucky...

I tried not to have a meltdown because I'm terrified of this ride. But after riding it, I've finally decided I like it:)

Next up was RnRC! Of course we had a blast! (we're in the back)

After that we decided we'd had enough thrills (and already had 2 FPs in our lanyards). We headed over to Pixar place to meet an abundance of characters! We only got to meet Donald & Minnie... but we also saw Stitch, Sorcerer Mickey, and Pooh & Tigger on their way out or in.

We already have the photopass pictures- so here they are!

After that we decided it was time to hop on a friendship boat Jaci style (enjoy the scenery & breeze and just sit and relax at WDW!!!) to EPCOT.

Up next?
More meet & greets, Lunch ressie (our first dining plan experience), and EPCOT times.
