Hey all! I am from Ontario and we are flying out of Detroit(so much cheaper) has anyone driven that before? I just don't know if we should drive through Windsor and take the Detroit border, or drive through Sarnia area and take the Port Huron border.

Thanks!

We just returned Toronto - Detroit airport. I checked on CAA and there wasn't much different between Windsor and Sarnia. We were surprised that it showed Sarnia faster by 20 mins. Windsor showed alot of turns after the border to get on the highway. We went through Sarnia. It was very easy to follow.

We're actually flying Waterloo International Airport (Breslau) to Det Thurs morning! Less than one hour flight.

I prefer crossing at Sarnia. The bridge is easier to get to than Windsor (you don't have to drive through city streets in Sarnia - it's right off the highway) and once you've crossed into Michigan the speed limits on I94 are higher than the 401 (generally 70mph until you get close to the northern burbs). Also, once you're on I94 you take it right to the airport - no interchanges. There is often, but not always, less traffic at Sarnia. Besides, in my mind the vacation starts once I've crossed the border, and Sarnia gets me there an hour earlier. :thumbsup2

I've flown out of Detroit several times and getting to the airport from Sarnia/Port Huron is soooo easy. I would never go all the way around through Windsor! Just my thoughts . . .

We went in January from London and were told from friends in Windsor to go through Sarnia. Apparently the Airport is easier to get to this way instead of driving through Detroit. Worked well for us.

I've never gone to the airport in Detroit but every time we have to go across to Michigan, we ALWAYS cross at Sarnia/Port Huron. It's much easier to cross than driving through Windsor and the stretch of highway 402 is way better than the 401. I find the 401 between London and Windsor to be full of potholes and that's where there are a lot of very serious accidents.
