I tried on my bathing suit today. All I can say is, "Oh my!" :earseek:

What can I do between now and my vacation to try and look better. I am very overweight overall, but my main problem areas are my arms and thighs.

I have a treadmill at home and a few dumbbells (1, 5, & 8 lbs). Also have a 10 pound medicine ball. Don't have the money to invest in anything more right now.

Atkins and the like don't work for me, but I've had success on WW before. There are no meetings near me that are convenient (all are weekday mornings), but I have my old materials. Just haven't had the motivation to get started.

Is there anything else out there that works? I really need to lost weight, not just for vacation, but really for my life.

Thanks for any help.

My recommendation would be something that may not make a huge difference in six weeks. This is a life time commitment you are in need of making and not just a spot reduction thing. However, overall I am thinking if you begin a healthy eating program, make wise choices of everything you consume and get to exercising you may see a good start.

Exercise suggestions would be to get on that treadmill to do some cardio and in order to tone, I would use a Pilates routine. Can you get to a library to get a book or dvd to begin using some sort of Pilates program to help start your core muscle strengthening program? You can notice a difference in the six weeks you have with the materials you possess. You can also get a book from the library or even online to find a beginning program for those weights you have.

Go to Oprah's boot camp. There is an excellent guide to begin your program.

I would like to stress, that you might want to strive for this to be a life commitment and do the best you can to make this your starting point as you continue onward.

Good luck and have fun on vacation.

I agree with Tiger Lily that this has to be a lifestyle program. I am still learning that! I know what it feels like to look at a vacation date and say yikes! I also fall into the pitfall of doing things for a certain short term goal then quit. I need to learn to exercise regularly and eat healthfully!!!! There is great inspiration on here from people who have learned to do that.
I have started jogging and it makes a difference more quickly than walking it seems to me, so maybe start walking on the treadmill and move up to jogging. Also weights several days a week help tone things up. There are lots of exercises out there to do.
Good luck and come back to these boards for inspiration.

I thought I wold pop back in here to see if you made any steps toward your goal. I look forward to hearing about your journey.
