Only one day at DLR and don't *really* care about the rides....

My IL's are going to DLR in June and they will only have one day. FIL has already stated he doesn't want to go on any rides but I know MIL wants to at least do Splash Mountain. We also told them not to miss Aladdin and Soarin' at CA.

So, what would be the best way to plan their time?

I am thinking they should get Splash Mountain done first thing and then just soak up Disneyland. Then maybe head over to CA and try to do Aladdin and Soarin'. I don't think they will be able to do the FP's because they will only have 1 day park hoppers - am I correct on that? Don't you need multiday park hoppers to take advantage of FP?

No rides?:scared1:

Any ticket is good for fast passes.

I know, I know....no rides:rolleyes1

Good to know that they can take advantage of FP - I will let them know although it might be a bit complicated for them.

Anyone know if Aladdin at CA is being performed on Tuesday/June 10th? It isn't showing on the DLR calendar - wondering if it is dark that day?

Cristabel is right, any entrance media will give you a FP. So they should definitely use it for Soarin.

Tell them to plan on seeing the Billy Hill & the Hillbillies show at the Golden Horseshoe. Take a tour around the Rivers of America on the Mark Twain. Surely they will want to ride Pirates. . . I mean how can you go to DL and not go on Pirates?

I THINK Aladdin is Wednesdays through Sundays.. (Or Thursdays) But I know for sure it's not playing on Mondays or Tuesdays..

Bummer! That is what I was afraid of.

I know! The only reason why I remember it wasn't playing on Mondays or Tuesdays because when we were there and it was Monday we wanted to watch it, but it wasn't playing..

No rides. The concept isn't that out of the ordinary. Okay, it's probably not the usual DL trip and a little strange, but there's so much to do at DL/DCA that you could fill up an entire day with non-ride activities! In fact, my neighbor and I did this just yesterday. We mainly went to see the new Indiana Jones show and watch the Parades. Here's a rough timeline of our day.

11am - Arrival at DL
11:35 - Jedi Training Academy
12:30 - Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger
(quick walk across the esplanade to DCA)
1:00 - HSM2 School's Out
1:20 - Lunch at Whitewater Snacks
2:15 - Playhouse Disney Live on Stage
(back to DL)
3:30 - Parade of Dreams
3:50 - Princess Storytelling
4:15 - Princess Royal Coronation Ceremony
(back to DCA)
5:30 - Pixar Play Parade (delayed by 15 minutes for tech difficulties)
6:00 - Shopping and Pin Trading
(back to DL)
7:00 - Disneyland: The First 50 Years
7:30 - Dinner at Plaza Inn
8:15 - RIDE ALERT! Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
8:35 - Tomorrowland Terrace Band
9:00 - Jump, Jive, Boogie Swing Party
9:30 - RDCT Fireworks
9:45 - People watching, waiting to leave
10:00 - Depart DL

11 Hours at the Parks with only 1 Ride! And we didn't even see some of our favorite shows and non-ride attractions like Billy Hill, Aladdin, and It's Tough to Be a Bug. Or some of the bigger shows/parades like Fantasmic and Disney's Electrical Parade. And it's not like we didn't want to go on more rides--we didn't use our fastpasses for Indy, Soarin', and Space Mountain (we were able to give away the Space Mountain FPs on our way out). But that's just the way our day went. I know that we're lucky to be local APs, so there's no pressure to do a lot of the rides when we visit, but that's what I love about DL/DCA. There's so much fun stuff you can do besides the rides. It was a really good day. :)

Great post. I'm going to plan a 3+ day visit sometime & have a day like that. :hippie:

Just curious, but do your IL's know anything about DLR's rides? Do they know that tons of them are slow moving "experiences", rather than "rides". Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan, even Buzz are all great, but they aren't really "rides". They're "experiences". Does he think that the rides are all roller coasters or thrill rides? Because if so, then he's got a lot to learn about DLR.

Also if they only have 1 day and they don't want to do "rides", and Aladdin isn't showing, then I wouldn't recommend DCA. Just stick with DL for the day.

I've gone many times to DL without riding anything more than the tram, and sometimes not even that. My daughter and I like to go eat lunch at BB, and then watch shows, or shop, or just sit there and enjoy the atmosphere. The other day I only rode POC, and did the Tiki Room, and then watched the new Indiana Jones stunt show as they roamed from place to place in Adventureland. There is plenty to do there without going on a ride.

yeah, No Rides... Theres only one ride in the whole entire park anyways... :-)
