Hello everyone,

My family & I, first timers, are here on Day #2 of 10 days. In all of my planning, (ADRs, small toys for the kids, ordering off site food, etc) I did not seriously think about footwear. I only brought one pair of flip flop sandals, that's it. I can't walk anymore. I'm not exaggerating unfortunately. :( My feet are swollen. They are red, when you press just lightly turns white. My feet didn't hurt this much when I was 9 months pregnant.

I was hoping for advice on how I can buy sneakers here. We don't have a rental car. We are staying at Pop. Does Downtown Disney sell sneakers? How can I buy sneakers while I am here? I feel bad for my kids, I literally can't walk more than 2 minutes at a time without stopping to rest, and they've only gone on a few rides since we've been here.

Thank you so much in advance.

My DH didnt break in his shoes before our trip and was very sore a few days in. He ended up buying Mickey crocs and was very very happy with how comfortable they were.

I agree with PP, the sneakers you find at DTD are going to be fashionable, not functional, so you're better off taking a taxi to the outlets for a few hours to find a good pair.

Oh man....this is officially the first time I've EVER told someone to go offsite for any reason!! :rotfl2: But I do know the pain of "Disney Feet".

One option available at EPCOT (and probably other places) are crocs flip flops...they are WAY more comfortable than normal flip flops and are almost exclusively what I wear while there. For now, put your feet up at night and take advil before bed and right when you wake up. It'll help for sure!

Get a taxi and go to wal-mart fast! Still, with new shoes that are not broken in they are still going to hurt! Number one rule when you are going to be walking 10 miles a day ....NO FLIP FLOPS...EVER! Don't even take them with you.

I second the thought for the Mickey crocs. They do better to walk around all day. Make sure to put your feet up whenever possible, soak them in the bathtub in cold water when you get back to the room and drink LOTS of water. If its really bad and you think new tennis shoes are the only option, I'd call a cab and ask the concierge the best and closest place to go.

Thank you guys so much for your responses. I do have my feet up right now, DH took our DD5 and DS2 to the pool for movie night.

We went to Epcot today but in the 9 hours we were there, I could only make it as far as Norway for the Akershus reservation, then I waddled (people who see me waddling are assuming it's from my pregnancy, but it's really my feet) back near the entrance/land/sea area until we called it quits and left. It feels like my feet are on fire when I stand up and walk.

I was thinking about an enterprise 1 day rental, does anyone know which option would be cheaper? Rent a taxi back & forth or 1 day rental? I know Enterprise will pick you up,would they drop you off as well? If they don't, how do we get back to the hotel? I don't drive at all, so DH would have to drive which means we have to take our kids along.

Thank you again everyone.

Meh, my wife and daughters did just fine in flip flops. Different things work for different people.

Coworker thought his broken in jogging shoes would be great - he got blisters. Though he had worn them many times, he'd never walked in them. Old style Converse with zero arch support worked better for him.

Also another question Disney friends, if we take a taxi, which outlet is the closest place to go that is near Pop? I would like to try to spend as little as possible on cab fare. Thanks in advance.

Florida has a bus system. I can't remember the name, but I used it to get from downtown to Sea World. The fare was $1.50 each way in 2011. I'm sure you could get to Wal-mart of something that way.

What size do you wear? I'll be checking into Pop on Wednesday if you can wait that long. I have some size 6 you can have.

The gift shops have sold Crocs my last few trips. I'd send DH down to see if they have anything. I'm not really a fan, but it sounds like anything would be better than what you have now. :(

There is a Fit2Run running store at Downtown Disney in case you don't want to go to Walmart. I. Sure they have sneakers. I'd assume they're more expensive than Walmart though.

Edited to add a link. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...-downtown-disney-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

Omg thank you sooooooooo much! I'm so happy I want to cry. I just called them, they do have women's sneakers and they open at 10:30! Even if more expensive than Walmart, having only to go to DTD instead of catching a cab & dragging our young kids to the outlet is worth it.

Thank you, thank you, I wish I could hug you!

That is SO INCREDIBLY kind of you, thank you so so much for your offer, bless you!

I just found out Fit2Run in DTD sells sneakers, so I'm going to be there at opening tomorrow! Thank you again for your kind offer!

Mickey Crocs, even if just as a second pair of shoes to relax in in the evenings and early mornings, so you have a different pair of shoes then the new sneakers you'll get at DTD. I spent a few years where Crocs were literally the only type of shoes I could wear.

Also, probably do not go barefoot anywhere except in the actual swimming pool and shower/tub, though even then you *could* wear the Crocs. This is where the Mickey Crocs come in very useful.

Finally, consider renting an ECV for at least a day or more until your feet settle down. Your feet with thank you. You will thank you.

On our September trip I developed Plantar fasciitis, which was complicated by a pre-existing condition. I was in a LOT of pain, could barely walk (at times could not), and kind of hobbled slowly from place to place. I was stupid and did not rent an ECV. I should have. It almost ruined the trip. Next trip I am renting one.

Also, remember that you can get ice from the ice machines, and the bags that line the ice buckets can be tied off. Or just dunk the feet in an ice bath in the *double bag-lined* ice bucket with a towel under it, though really only one foot at a time practically fits...

Really finally, if desperate, places like Amazon.com Drugstore.com and Zappos.com (Zappos is shoes) ALL will do next day (if you meet the cut-off times) and two-day delivery to your hotel for a fee. On our last stay I did orders from both Amazon and Drugstore, both overnight and two-day (I am an Amazon Prime Member, which helped reduce the cost). Instant heating pads and some other things came in very handy on that trip... The packages were delivered to the hotel and I picked them up at the front desk soon after the sending company notified me they had been delivered.

I second the rental of ECV for a day or 2 if the budget can make it. it will give your feet a chance to heal. I would go with an ECV over a wheelchair so husband can still handle the kids, as kids can not ride on ECV with an adult, instead of pushing you

Its different strokes for different folks with flipflops, but certainly I would agree that you can't rely on them as your only footwear. My last trip I had 3 pair of shoes, 2 different sneakers and my Mush flippys. I had been wearing one pair of the sneakers the whole time up until my last night because they were more broken in than the others and I thought the support was the best way to go. By my 3rd night which was actually my last night, I plain and simply couldn't walk anymore. I was solo and stressed and thinking I'd have to give up and go back to my hotel. I'd been carrying the flippys (yes I call them flippys) in my bag and figured I'd at least try to get through with them. I stopped and took off my sneakers, switched them out for the flippys and could barely get my feet in them because they were so swollen!! These particular flippys at home were a little loose so I was stunned when they were tight! I ended up waddling over to Universe of Energy and got a whole row to myself, and alternated massaging my feet and putting them up on the bench. The lady behind me was giggling and said she'd do the same thing if she had room. I took it slow after that but I would have never made it without those flipflops. The next day I switched to the other pair of sneakers and was fine.

I plan on doing basically the same thing this upcoming trip, I'll take 2 pair of sneakers and keep my flippys in my bag with me. The only thing I'll do different is switch out the sneakers every other day.

If you need a wheelchair for a day or so to give your feet a rest, you might be able to borrow one for free from the hotel if they have any available. This happened to me on our last trip in October - I unexpectedly couldn't walk because of an ankle flare-up and we didn't want to pay for an ECV, so we asked Port Orleans Riverside if they had a wheelchair I could borrow and they let me use one for free for the remainder of our trip. Definitely saved a bundle over renting an ECV or wheelchair!
