It's December.

2 women, 2 teenagers and a tween are arriving by car -- let's say before dinner but well after lunch. This is our Day 1. We expect Days 2, 3 and 4 will be full park days. We leave Day 5.

What park for Day 1? MK or AK?

MK for the later hours? I feel like we'll want HS and EP to be full park days.

I think the one potential issue you will need to consider/monitor would be when will they have Christmas parties at MK? I think most expect they will. Typically, that's several nights per week at MK, so you'll have to see if that first night actually has later hours for you, or might close earlier due to the parties. It sounds like you might know the day of the week you're planning this - perhaps review what 'typical' nights they held the parties in the past to get an idea (although nothing seems 'typical' right now with Disney planning!).

Do you have AK scheduled for another day or are your 3 days MK, EP and HS? If so, then yes, I'd do AK because it's a no miss for us. Having said that, realize AK is going to close earlier than the other parks especially in Dec. I think maybe 7? Also, safari and trails will close earlier than that. So realistically, you are only going to get a few hours in the park.

I'd book a Christmas party over a full priced MK day ticket. Or at least wait to see the party pricing.

I agree with RoseGold. I wouldn't use a normal park ticket if I was arriving to start my park time late afternoon/early evening. If you must visit a park on that first very short day, I would hope for a Christmas party/after hours event and do that instead. Then for the 3 full days, I would do Epcot, HS, and MK. But AK is my least favorite park and we often skip it on short trips. It also has the least to offer in terms of holiday theming, which I'm assuming you will want to enjoy if you are visiting in December.

This is kinda our plan. Myself and DD10 will be flying down 12/12 - 12/17 and plan to do full days at HS, EP (CP I'm hoping) and a party night at MK. I'm hoping that's MVMCP so we can do the 4:00 entry like in years past! That gives us arrival day afternoon/eveing and one full day to tour resorts to see the holiday decorations, have time at Disney Springs and whatever else we want to do.
