Only 1 day at WDW: which day?

We (me and DH) are going to be in Orlando May 4-8, with the primary purpose of the trip to visit Universal (which we have never seen). However, we have a leftover 1 day hopper pass for WDW that we plan to use one day. We haven't been to WDW since '01 (and it's killing me!) but we have a big trip planned there for May '06.

So, my question is: which day would be best to do Disney? I'm leaning towards Wednesday the 4th because I'm thinking it might be the least crowded due to the big celebration starting on the 5th. We plan to hit our favorite attractions at MGM and Epcot (and hopefully see the new ones) and if time allows, get on over to the MK. I know it will be a commando day but it will go a long way towards tiding me over until next year!

Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks!

Well ... Epcot will be closing at 3pm on the 4th, so if you're doing Epcot, be sure to do it early. I, personally, wouldn't choose any day around May 5 to do a quick day trip to MK or Epcot. The crowds will be big, due to special events, press, special guests, etc, and there will be roped off areas at almost every turn. If you MUST go to Disney during that time, choose a park and spend some time there. I don't think you'll get much done hopping on May 4.

Oh, do I have the dates wrong?? I thought Epcot was closing early on the 5th, not the 4th? That was the reason I was thinking it would be best to go the day before.

I know, rotten timing on my part to be going anytime around those dates but I had this all planned before I knew about the big celebration.

I believe the big press party is the night before "the big day." That's normally how it works.
