Heya,

someone at some other forum brought this topic up (which isn't exclusively innovative so far, but... :) - what would you think about a meeting of forum users at the Resort next year, including the (overlapping) crowds of the several DLRP related forums?

I'm curious how open you are to such an idea (not yet talking about the way to finally realize it and do all the planning).

I did set up a little non-site-specific poll just about the months when anyone might be open to plan Disney trips. Have a look if you're interested, you can vote in it at http://doodle.ch/u5zwfyyyr9728n33 - maybe you'll recognize some known nicknames, as some magicforum and mousekingdom users already put their votes in :)

Cheers
Oliver

OP, I think such meetings are easy to organize in parks like Disneyland, where everybody lives "right around the corner". However, seeing the international mix here on the DLP board, it would be a rather expensive meeting for people to attend.

Now that I have the company car and an AP, DLP visits are relatively cheap. If I had to pay for transport (the train), the meeting would have to offer something very special for me to come at that particular time!

I would like the idea to meet some people from the DIS, but I am also very realistic regarding these meetings.

hrmmm I'm not sure, with the expenses and everything, plus finding a time to suit everyone, and the fact that in theory (and on the internet) we all get on talking about DLP, who knows if we could find anything in person!

Good idea in theory but very hard to orchestrate I think!

Well you're both right so far, but don't be too pessimistic. We are not at all talking about an event of extreme public attention! Even a meeting of 10 is more fun than no meeting at all I think :)))

Planning ahead might let people coordinate their very own travel plans with a scheduled meeting, others may just live close by and be flexible, and the organization, however, is just as difficult as the organizers will allow it to be :)

Thats why I just thought lets not have a big discussion with lots of "good idea" and even more "you'll never make it!" statements but instead try to project how it CAN be managed... I'm myself willing to help organizing and coordinating even for 5 or for 500 people (and everything in between).

I'm curious for lots more of feedback! ;)

Oliver

P.S.: oh and by the way: I just had the DLRP fans in mind, not the world wide DIS community... I guess there are already great events going on in the US... I just didn't know about anything in Paris so far...

Yeah I know what you mean - I think if some people could maybe work around scheduled visits a dinner with disers and their family would be fun.

Hahaha I'm sure there will come one mad day when we all meet, can you imagine 200 disney enthusiasts running around their very own eden?!

Only 200? *LOL*

Whether we talk about dinner, a picnic, a simple group walk, "DISers go wild on BTM" group photo or even a special guided backstage tour... there are plenty of options... just depending on the creativity and activity potential :D

I guess forum users aren't so different from "normal" Disney fans.. so after all that event won't let anyone stick out of the mass so much...

"DISers go wild on BTM"

:rotfl: I love that idea

Then again, if everyone wore the DIS colour of lime green........ ;)

When I went in June I met up with a large group of friends for a few rides and a meal. It was really nice to meet up with everyone in the flesh. I think it's a great idea:goodvibes

It is really good fun to meet up with others. Whether it be for 30mins to have coffee as I have done or the pin traders I know where we tend to talk more online as we trade and therefore tend to sit together for longer or as Happened to us in the US this summer online contacts actually came down to visit us. This was the most fun.
Given a chance I would certainly attend this sort of meet.
I have the last 2 years tried to get anyone to spend a while in december with us as part of the MFL world meet day - a spin off from the WDW fan meets in december. Last year there were 7 of us.

And neither of us thought to take a photo!! ;) :rotfl:

I think it's lovely to meet up with others. :goodvibes I enjoyed meeting with Nikki in Salon Mickey last summer; the previous summer I met with another DISer and we did a couple of rides together.

I have already booked for next summer as we are tied to school holidays but have added my details to your poll, Oliver.

I have heard about this "lime green" thing to identify DIS users, what's with that? I'm going in Dec about the same time as a few others and would be interested in playing spot the DG people!!!!

even though my family may think I'm mad when I explain it to them :rotfl:

Kxx

It is considered the official colour of the DISboard. You'll find a few DISers will identify themselves with a lime green Mickey head ;)

Seeing as I'm actually planning to go next July after my A2 exams are done, the fact that everyone else wants to go then makes it perfect! Im sure my mum will understand:thumbsup2

I have already booked for next summer
How have you already booked for next summer, I've been looking all over for prices and can't find any.......yet.

It's because I'm staying offsite ~ I've booked the Explorers though Benotel, they are taking bookings up to beginning of November 2008, and Air France will book flights 12 months in advance on their own website.

That explains a lot, I want to stay in a disney hotel so I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer, if I can save up enough I'm planning to stay at the Hotel New York, or the Cheyenne and have lots of money for pins:)
