Is it worth it to do online check-in when staying DVC? Any pros/cons for doing it online or waiting until we get there? Thanks!

We have found it to be beneficial. It simply speeds up the check-in process when you get there. There is usually a line at the resort specifically for those who have done online check-in. There is really no disadvantage for doing it, only advantages :)

The major disadvantage is that they assign you a room and you do not get the opportunity to change it.

hmmm... hadn't heard that one before. Our trip in November, we did checkin online, then got there at 9 or so from our cruise and told us our room not ready. Our daughter was feeling ill, so they switched our room and gave us one right away. Maybe they only do it for an emergency, I don't know, but they did make the change so it can be done. :)

Online check in was implemented to reduce if not eliminate guests contact time with CMs and to allow the night crew to prepare the packets.

Phase 1 was when they had guests go to a special line and you were handed your packet.

Phase 2 which started a couple of months ago is where the entrance Security Guard calls the Front Desk to inform them of your arrival or a Greeter meets you getting off DME. Either you will be met at curbside with your packet or the Greeter will meet you and walk you to a Front Desk CM who will hand you your packet.

Either way they don't want to give you the opportunity to ask for a different room which causes extra work and delays.

We have changed our "assigned" room. We had requested an upper floor and were assigned to a 2nd floor room. When we asked, there was a room on the 4th floor available, and it was easy to switch. This was relatively late in the day, too--maybe 3pm.

Really the only difference is they already have your CC number and so the check in is about 3-4 minutes faster.

This was last month at BWV, and yes, it was after we were walked in by a greeter.
