online check-in? worth it?

My first and only attempt was a total disaster that somehow ended up with me having points put in holding through no fault of mine. It was the front desk @ SSR. Couldn't get the room charging privileges to work at all during my stay. They couldn't find my reservation when I arrived, turned out the room ended up registered in my friends names who aren't even DVC members. I will never attempt it again.

Depends.

I had two stays at the Boardwalk Villas, one in May, one in September of this year.

With the May stay, they told me to have a seat in the lobby, then a gal came over with my key and resort package, handed it to me, and that was that.

In September, somehow the credit card didn't get attached, they had to do it all over again, the computer broke down, it took quite a few minutes to cut room keys, they weren't sure if the room was clean or not (one computer said it was and the other said it wasn't) so had to wait for them to call and check, and while my friend was on the reservation at check-in and they had a key for her, Magical Express couldn't find her - and when they looked up MY name (I'm the member) it said the reservation was invalid.

I do not think it is any quicker, but I do it because I feel it is safer. I remember a year or two ago when a CM was caught using a card reader to steal credit cards. I know quite a bit about the technology used on e-commerce sites and I trust sending my credit card via the Internet over giving it to a person.

I always do it, in August when we got to boardwalk there was a decent sized line at check-in, we definetly saved some time.

Our experience is that online check-in is worth it when the resort enforces the clearly identified online check in line. On one visit to SSR we watched, waiting alone in the reserved online checking line, while the CM served anybody wandering by with a request. I made my point on this with a supervisor and never had the problem again.

If I'm arriving early in the morning I skip online check in...with hopes that if I don't like my assigned room I may be able to change it easily since my room keys haven't been created yet.

If I'm arrriving in the late afternoon I do use online check in to speed things up!

My most recent online check in went so fast and smooth at CR(BLT) it was great.

Think ill pass on it. Seems like it doesnt save enough time to make a difference.
