Online check-in with Alamo

Can someone go over the rules for online check in for me? I read the "requirements" on the Alamo website, and after reading on these boards about how long the lines are I'm starting to consider this...to the point of removing my $15 off coupon to qualify!

How far in advance can you check in online? (I couldn't find this on the web page...)
The rate I received qualified us for a free driver. Can I add a driver with the online check in as well?
And a slightly off topic question...can you request a smoking/non smoking car? I've rented before in AZ and my key was attached to a key chain that stated "non smoking". Or will I have to just look in every vehicle?

You can check in at any time I believe. Not sure, but I think with an additional driver, you must go to the counter.
Also not sure about the non-smoking car. Any rental car I have had was non-smoking.
