Online check-in problems (special request section)

Hi there,
Not sure if this is the right sub-forum, so I apologize in advance! I just did my online check-in and ran into a couple problems... One being adding the cell phone (I won't be bringing mine, but I put it anyway), and then later where it says Special Requests

I clicked on Add a Special Request and a box popped up. But there was nothing to select and nowhere to type! I need to add a disability-related special request and was wondering if I just am missing something. I am going to call, anyway, but I'm wondering what went wrong.

Thanks!

Online check in only allows a very specific group of requests to be made. I forget exactly what they are, but there is only a few that you have the option of. If you have a request, then you need to call and have it added to your reservation that way.

I leave the cell phone box blank. All it does is ask if you are sure you want to leave it blank, and then completes the check in. I bring mine, but it spends most of the time locked in the room safe instead of with me.

You can't write anything as far as special requests. When you click on it, it will bring up items that allow you to check a box (such as close transportation, ground floor, pack and play) and sometimes you get more choices and sometimes less - depending on your resort. I've clicked on it and had no choices, and I think the most choices I've had was four. If you have a specific need or request it really needs to be on your reservation ahead of time, and then I recommend NOT doing online check in so you can bring it up again at the front desk when you check in. I usually don't have any requests, so online check in works great for me.

I had the exact same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago when I was attempting to check in one line - just a blank box popped up when I clicked on add special request. I finally gave up and checked in (in person) when I arrived at Disney World. I tried several times over several days, and always had the same result.

I hope someone can explain why that happened - I was able to check in on line previously, so I don't think it was my computer.

Depending on the medical need-it may be too late to have it met. You need to call special requests right away and explain what you need.

Thank you for all of your replies.

It wouldn't let me bypass the page WITHOUT putting in a cell number. Not sure why.

As for the request box, there were no options. I suppose there aren't any.

What is the number I call? I called the resort (POFQ) directly and she said I should ask housekeeping my question... which answered incorrectly (I found the answer later online). Should I try calling them again or is there another line to call?

I hope it isn't too late or this puts quite the damper on the vacation :( I didn't realize it was an option until last week.

I would go over to the DISabilites board and ask your question. I know there is a number you can call for medical need requests, but I'm not sure what it is. I do know that that is the only way to guarantee getting a request met, going thru that number. Anything else is treated as a generic request, and not guaranteed.

Thanks! I was about to and then I made a few calls. Turns out I can't do it because I used a Travel Agent. Yesterday was Family Day so everything was closed, so she is calling today.

Thanks!

You didn't reach the resort directly; you were routed to a Central Call Center and the CM answers the phone as if they are at the resort, but they are at a remote location. The CM, sadly, "made an attempt" to answer your question. Some of the CM's are better trained than others; most likely you got one who should have deferred your call to the disabilities number for reservations.

As the PP stated, go over to the disabilities board. They have the CRO number for disabilities and when you call, they can add it to your reservation. If you are less than five to three days out, it may be moot, because that is when they roll over the ressies to the resort.

Just a note.....all special requests should be made at the time of booking. If you use a TA, then the agent has to make the request for you. If you forget to add those special requests when booking, have them added when you think of it.

The online checkin isn't really set up for really 'special' requests. It sometimes will ask....close to buses, close to elevators, need a crib. That sort of thing. But something like a specific bldg or floor?? Nope, nothing there to request that sort of thing.

That reminds me of last year; I traveled with two families. One had a five year old and an infant. We booked the five year old in my room, so we could stay in the mansions at POR.

When we did online check-in, the box for the pack 'n play did not show up on my ressie, but it did show up on theirs. I believe the computer picked up the age of the child and there it was.

So I believe that the computer picks up small items, i.e. refrigerator (if you are at the values and want to rent one), etc.

But for the regular requests, as you stated, they should be made at time of booking or when you think of it - not when you get to the resort.

Thanks again, everyone. As I mentioned, I had to contact the TA and she took care of it. Hopefully it will work out.

Cheers!

Just checked in online a few hours ago. The same thing happened to me. The special request box had no requests to check off. I have checked in online a bunch of times and got the few choices others have mentioned but not this time. I just skipped it because we have a preferred room and I hope that gets us near the main building.
