online and twilight at Gatwick

I must admit I do not unbderstand why people want to do OLCI and then drop their cases off at twilight check in.
If you are going down the night before, why not keep the cases in the hotel room then take them to bag drop off the next morning?
you need clothes and it saves having a seperate bag to either have to take to the car or carry on anyway.
You are not saving any time.

It's not really about saving time - we are getting the train which goes into the airport so it's just a pain to lug the cases to the hotel and then back again. My issue is actually that I have 7 passengers across 3 reference numbers and only 3 of us have seats reserved and they're not together! So we're more worried about getting seats together - I'm more than happy just to twilight check under normal circumstances but we can't get there until 5.30pm and I'm worried that will be too late.

Sorry but never knew about online check in, how far in advance can you do this??

After two (for them) disasterous long haul flights my parents are paranoid about getting the seats they want - particularly as we have booked seperately. They figure the least chance of them getting their seats changed is for them to get their boarding cards in their hands the evening before. Me - I'd quite happily do onci then drop the bags the following morning - saves a load of hassle with overnight bags as you rightly point out.

We always stay at the Hilton and use twilight checkin so we can get rid of our bags the night before our flight and so are able to have a nice stress free morning of our flight and a nice leisurely breakfast :)
We have very little 'overnight' stuff with use, what we do have easily fits into our hand luggage. as we buy new tooth brushes and toothbrushes for the holiday we take the old ones to use and then dump them when we leave the room at the Hilton :)
Using online checkin as well just gives a bit of piece of mind that we have got the seats we want.

Ok so I emailed virgin to explain about our split booking and only half of us having reserved seats and how best to sort it out and have been advised to check in in person.

They did also say that you CANNOT do online AND twilight!

I would suggest if you want to do both you print out the message above that said you could and take it with you!

So we'll be twilight checking :goodvibes

Just thought I'd bump this up with the email response I got when I contacted them over the weekend!

Dear Victoria,

Thank you for your email and apologies for the delayed response.

We would like to inform you that you can do DIY Check In and Twilight Check-In
for your flight from Gatwick. However, you need to inform your agent that you
have already done DIY Check In, so that he can provide you with the boarding
card the evening before.

We look forward to welcoming you on board.

Kind Regards,
Harpal Kaur
