Ok guys I am getting very confused so can you please let me know if you have done online check in AND then dropped your cases off at twilight?

We're travelling to Gatwick the night before and don't want to worry about our cases the next day BUT for reasons I won't go into there are 7 of us and we only have 3 seats reserved! So I need to check in as early as possible to try and get us all together.

Can I do it?

RJ

If you use online check-in then you cannot drop your bags of the evening before your flight at the Twlight Check-In.

You must wait until the day of your flight, and you can drop your bags about 4 hours prior to departure.

There does seem to be conflicting reports about this - I would also like to use on-line check in and then dump my bags off at twilight checkin.

I have read posts from people that have done this, (I believe there is no dedicated on-line check in bag drop desk during twilight check in - you need to use the standard check in desks). I see no reason why the Virgin check in wouldn't be able to see the on-line check in details and print off the boarding cards.

I have emailed VA for a definative answer - I'm still waiting for a response :)

I thought you could too - we' were planning on doing just that :confused3

Perhaps you can now, then? When I called VA about this on our last trip they said that we wouldn't be able to do that..... :confused3

I'd be very interested in the reply - We also were going to use on-line check in and then Twlight when we arrive at our airport hotel the night before!!!!
Please keep us updated - Thanks!!

Here is the reply I got from Virgin Atlantic about using on-line check in and twilight check in:

Dear Tim,

Thank you for your email and apologies for the delayed response.

To inform you, you would need to proceed with one or the other.

We look forward to welcoming you on board.

Kind regards

Now that's a right royal pain in the pants!

Looks like we'll be at twilight - I hope we can get those 7 seats together...

edited to add: Tim I just noticed your location - it's a very small world as my parents live in Hinckley!

Decisions...Decisions!!!!!!!

We won't be arriving at our hotel till about 8.30 / 9.00pm. Looks like i'll be doing on-line check in so at least we should get the seats we want!

Ahh well..

I don't know what to do myself. With just me and my BF we really want to get one of the 'two seaters' towards the back of the plan so online seems like the best option. OTOH, we would love to be able to ask about exit row seats (both young and physically fit), and we'd have to do that at Twilight - and by the time we get there it could be too late!

Argh! Decisions!

Not all seats are released on the on line check in anyway.
OLCI is great if you want a standard seat with no complications.

I don't know if it would influence your decision at all but bear in mind that Virgin have started charging for the exit seats now.

Mmm... I guess it would depend how much the charge is.

Have they? When I called VA due to 4 of our party being unseated having reserved online I was told oh well at least if you check in and choose your seats there you could get exit seats - no mention of cost...

When we went in September, they were charging £50 per person/seat.

RosieJo, as far as I understand it they only re-introduced the charge last month.

Hmm, think I'll do the online check-in :teeth:

I e-mailed Virgin about this and this is their reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

Yes, you can use Twilight Check In and drop your bags off the day before your flight. Just let our check in agent know you used DIY check in and they will print your boarding card and issue you with bag tags.

Here's some further information regarding our Twilight Check In service:

* Passengers can check in for their next day flight from Gatwick the evening before
* Continental codeshare passengers are permitted to use this facility
* Twilight Check-In is open from 1200 - 2100 daily, at the Virgin Atlantic desks, in Zone A of Gatwick's South Terminal
* As usual with check in, you'll need your passport/s, ticket/s and any luggage that is not being taken into the cabin
* To use it, all party members must be present with the required documents
* You'll be issued with your boarding card which you'll need to bring along with your passport for the flight
* Passengers must leave an address and telephone contact number with the check-in staff in case there is a need to contact them overnight
* The following day, passengers need to be at their assigned gate no later than 50 minutes prior to departure
* If any passengers decide to check in more luggage on the day of the flight, they will need to queue up in the normal way
* Passengers who want to check in either surfboards or windsurfers with the rest of their baggage, will not be able to use Twilight Check-In. This is because we do not have a secure place to store them overnight
* Some bulkhead seats may be available, though many will be held back for the day of departure. Any passengers assigned bulkhead seats are advised that if on the day of departure there is a medical or infant /bassinet requirement, they may be repositioned.

We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

Same question and two different answers from Virigin LOL

I think I will chance it and use On-Line check in and then drop my bags off at twilight check in. The worst thing that can happen is they tell me to drop my bags off the next day, and as we are staying at the Hilton, that won't be that much hassle :)

Typical! Right I'm going to online check and then print out PABS email and take it to Gatwick with me at Twilight to drop my bags and get my boarding passes.

Fingers crossed!
