Looking for some ideas here! It's our first time in CA and we want to take in the sites after Disney this summer.
It'll be my husband (who will have had enough of crowds so al tours are off), me, and my two teens.
We're spending sat night in Laguna Beach and Sunday night on the Queen Mary.

The only Hollywood thing we want to do is get a pic of the sign, but I read that you can get a great view from Griffith Observatory, which I wanted to spend a late afternoon and evening at anyways, so score!

Mr. FFerret wants to just drive around and mentioned Mulholland Dr, , and I'd like rodeo dr and Sunset. Is Sunset that iconic drive where you see all the palms? He definitely wants to do the tar pits and go to Randys Donuts.

Plus some time at Laguna's tide pools and maybe just some down time on the trolleys there.

So, what do you California experts think? Doable? Monday will be kind of a wash, well just spend it onboard the QM until thee afternoon and LAX.

I really appreciate it!

I'm a fan of the California Science Center. The Space Shuttle Endeavour is on display there. It's only $2 per person just for a Shuttle viewing ticket. The rest of the museum is free and parking is $10. There's also a rose garden in the area (Exposition Park) as well as the LA Memorial Coliseum with the Olympic flame and statues from 1984.

Mulholland is LONG. There are many nice parts to it. Watch out for these guys on the weekends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoBg9vmKbz0

Tar pits are over near LACMA and the Petersen Museum in the Miracle Mile area. Your destinations are pretty spread out. Here is a map.

Randy's is near LAX, I actually stop there sometimes on my way home from DL. There are lots of palm tree lines streets in LA, do you have a picture of the one you think is iconic? Maybe we can identify it. But I think if you just drive around you'll see palm trees.

Awesome ideas, I always love to see science centers and space centers promoted! We live right in the Houston NASA community. People here are still reeling about not getting any of the shuttles :). I earned my Masters degree as an intern at Lubbock's Science Spectrum, so science centers hold a special place in my heart, too.

Ack, sorry about the multiple quotes, but I still have no idea how to quote multiple times in one post!

Now I feel goofy about the palm trees remark :). I've got no idea which street, but any scenic one will do!

So randys is close to lax, hmmmm. Should I hit it when we arrive--Monday at 7'pm--or when we depart--Monday at noonish?
We want to work in a trip to In n Out, too, and I've read the one close to LAX is one of the busiest but quick.

If you want to see the donut, go during the day. They have a drive thru, but I always park and wait at the window. If I'm going to eat fried dough, I can at least get out of the car and walk 30 feet. You can find a less crowded In n Out than the one by LAX. There's even an app.

I can't really recommend any one street for palm trees, as I think you'll see plenty of them driving around, but I did find this discussion on another site that has some suggestions: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopi...nd_Hollywood_sign-Los_Angeles_California.html

Alrighty, going to Randy's in the daytime.

That link to the palm lined street was excellent! We were going to see Sunset Blvd anyways, and this says take Canon Dr south from it for the classic street that you see in movies and on TV. Thanks again; can't wait for the summer!!!
