I held off on booking SW yesterday - $158 one way is just too much. I need to travel 8/26-9/2 out of Islip. I am going to wait for a ding or a lower fare...here is my question. If I book one way tickets going and the price goes down and I get a credit can I then use that credit right away to purchase one way return tickets? Is this a good strategy? Thanks

You certainly can use the credit to do that. I don't know how common the practice is, but I did that last year when flying from Chicago to MCO. Worked just fine for me.

Yes, you can use the credit immediately. We are in the same boat, have tickets going down but nothing coming back yet for 9/02. I could add two days to the vacation and get airfare for almost half the price by coming home on the 4th...but my kids are upset about possibly missing the first day of school. I may just buy the tickets for the 4th anyway just to have some security and then hope for a better fare that lets me change them to the 2nd. Good Luck!
