One Veggie and One Not Eat The Whole World....Showcase, That Is! *UPDATE 6/4*

Sanaa looks good! We have Jiko on our list for the next trip, but I'm going to have to remember to put Sanaa on hold for the next time. I love AKL, although I've only seen it when we ate at Boma last time. Maybe for the future trip I'll also have to think about staying there.

As for the hidden Mickey...I took a picture of my bruise today which someone said looked like Mickey. I don't think I should post it here though since this is a thread about food. LOL

I would like to try Jiko someday, maybe if I can get free dining again! We did eat a little cheaper this time around, like having lunches instead of dinners, because we didn't have the free dining. But we passed on it for more Disney days which is a more than fair trade, in my opinion!

I've had a mickey bruise before! And I probably took a picture of it too, lol!!

Oh yeah! That's right, it's snack time in the Magic Kingdom! :wizard:

After CHH, we rode a few rides, and mom decided she was still a bit hungry. I had heard Sleepy Hollow had waffles now, so I wanted to see what that was all about. I was pretty stuffed from dinner still (FYI, I eat pretty small meals usually, so sometimes I didn't finish my food or if it was a CS place, it was more than enough to fill me up.) The nutella waffle looked interesting, but there was no way I could eat it.

Mom decided to get a funnel cake, one of her favorite snacks when at the parks, so she got in line. While we waited, the new castle show was playing, so we got to see it from the side of the castle. I found us a table while she was still in line, and it was a pretty cool show, the way they projected all the pictures on the castle was super awesome!

And remember how I said I was full? I still picked at that funnel cake when mom sat down with it. (And sorry, no picture. I was engrossed in the castle show, and then the plate of hot, fried dough in front of me, :rotfl:) She ate most all of it, but I helped a little.

Later in the night I decided it was time for me to grab a snack, so I went for my favorite, albeit a little boring, vanilla soft serve! My first job was in a local ice cream joint, so I loooooooooove soft serve, since that's what we had there. :lovestruc Soft serve is like my happy place, lol. So I grabbed a cup of vanilla at Auntie Gravity and ate it as we slowly walked out of the park. Nothing better than being in Florida in January and eating ice cream at night! There's no way I would have done that back in Ohio! Again, no picture because I was too busy chowing down.

Ooh I had no idea they served vegetarian chilli at CHH
Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

Mmmmmm........I'm in. popcorn::

:woohoo: Glad you stopped by to read my reviews! And seeing that popcorn icon, now I want some Disney popcorn, lol!

No problem! Mom really liked that chili too. Disney seems to get better about vegetarian food now, mom never had a problem finding something yummy!

Welcome! Hope you enjoy my reviews!!

Great reviews!

Thank you!!! I should hopefully have a few more up tomorrow! :yay:

Wow, sorry for the delay in updates everyone! It just ended up being one of those crazy busy weeks with work and catching up on things at home. But I've got more dining photos uploaded, and I'm ready to serve you up a few more updates!

Alright, we're back on track now! This was our second full day in the parks, and we hit up Magic Kingdom for the daytime portion of our day. This included our lunch ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern. I booked this lunch mainly for mom, because they had this vegan quinoa burger on the menu, and I knew she'd love to try it. Ahead of time, I knew there wasn't too much I was interested in on the menu, so more on how that plays out as we go.

We had a short wait when we arrived, but we sat on one of the benches and I thought about coloring because there was a table with a basket full of crayons and coloring sheets and no children around it, lol! And, well, I like to color. But I decided not to, and before long we were seated.

It took awhile to order just because I couldn't make up my mind. We asked a few questions about the menu to our server, but I wasn't really into any of the options. I guess I should have figured this would happen, but in the end I got a salad and fried cheese.

That is the Declaration salad. It was described as "field greens and vegetables tossed with your choice of our tavern strawberry vinaigrette or roasted garlic buttermilk dressing". Both mom and I got this salad with the strawberry vinaigrette. Now, field greens to me makes me think of things that are leafy and green. This was more of chunky iceberg lettuce, and it was not the best looking lettuce, I had to pick some of it out. It really did not look super appetizing to me, but I dove in anyway because I was hungry.

A bit later, the rest of our food arrived. My Tavern Fried Cheese:

And mom's Vegetarian Burger, described as "House-made Potato Quinoa Vegan Patty topped with a fresh Vegan Tofu-Tzatziki sauce with fresh fruit or sweet potatoes fries" She got it with the fruit.

And one more shot, more to show off the gigantic burger!

Let's just say, mom was shocked at how big the sandwich was, and she loved it! She shared some of her fruit with me, and I ended up giving her the rest of my salad because I just wasn't liking it very much. Lucky mom likes her veggies, :rotfl:

I will say, I enjoyed the fried cheese, but when that's pretty much what you eat for lunch, it's not much in terms of nutrition. I liked that it was both mozzarella sticks and cheese curds! I did seem to enjoy posing for a pic with my cheese though, lol:

IMG_4605.jpg

I slowly ate my lunch, mostly because I'm a slow eater, but more because they had crayons at the table so I went back out to the lobby and got a coloring sheet after we ordered so I could be all creative! Here's the end result...not bad for a 27 year old, if I do say so myself, :lmao:!

100_2007.jpg

So overall, mom said this was the best meal she had eaten so far (keep in mind it's only day 2!!), and I was just okay with the whole experience here. In my opinion, I should have ordered better, but nothing sounded good off the entrees to me, so it was my own fault I didn't really like my lunch too much. But if the menu changed a bit, I would try LTT again someday.

We headed to Epcot at night and first went to Sunshine Seasons to see what they had to eat. I wasn't feeling super great, and nothing there sounded good to me for dinner. Mom picked up a prepackaged veggie wrap and some grapes in case she didn't find anything else to eat that night.

After that, we were off to Mexico! I was in the mood for the nachos that I had on my last trip. I just remembered they were delicious and I was hungry, and well, 1+1=2, doesn't it? We got to La Cantina around maybe 8 or so, and it was pretty crowded. I wasn't sure if they were busy because people were hungry or they were staking out Illuminations seats with their margaritas. Anyways, mom decided to order here as well and save her veggie wrap and grapes for another time. I'll post a pic of the wrap in the update when she ate it, since that's were the pics ended up.

I ordered the nachos, "corn tortilla chips with ground beef, nacho cheese, fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, black beans, and sour cream" I got everything on them, even though I don't love jalapenos, but I wanted to have some on there to try. Mom ordered the guacamole con totopos, "corn tortilla chips accompanied by guacamole". I thought the guacamole was expensive for what it was, it was like $7 and some change (until I saw the portion size :scared1:). We also got a bottled water to share. I waited in line for the food, we were planning to just take it down to Norway and find a table there, but mom found a table while I was waiting...and waiting...and waiting. It seemed to take forever, but maybe that's just because I was so hungry! Anyway, I finally got our tray of food and mom flagged me down from the table she got. Here's our food for two people, which could have probably fed at least four:

100_2024.jpg

That's my nachos. Last time I had them, I shared but since they had beef on them, mom wouldn't be sharing with me. I seriously doubted I could eat them all, but I dug right in to try my best!

IMG_4690.jpg

Holy guacamole! There had to be like, 3/4 of a cup of guacamole, if not a full cup. It was a lot! I tried one chip with guac, and it was really good. Mom ate it all, so I guess she liked it too! She also had some of the green salsa from the condiment stand to dip her chips in too.

Now, remember when I said I don't like jalapenos too much? Well, they were attacking my nachos. Like, an invasion of jalapenos. I couldn't get to anything else, so I started to pick them off. It was seriously a mound of jalapenos on my napkin by the time I picked them off. The nachos were exactly what I wanted, and despite being so hungry, the fact that I didn't feel so well to begin with meant I didn't even finish half of the nachos. I knew there was no point to try to take them with me (soggy chips = yuck). So after we ate, we headed out to catch a bus back to Riverside before the influx of Illuminations folks got to the line. We knew we would be seeing it soon enough, and plus with me not feeling good, I just wanted to get back to the room and get in my pjs!

Great update! LTT is one of those places I just can't seem to keep a ressie for. The burger looks great, but I hate quinoa and I hate spending valuable park time in a restaurant. So I seem to stick with QS for lunch and TS or a sig for dinner. The nachos look great, too! I will have to try Cantina someday-it looks so pretty being on the water and everything. :thumbsup2

Thanks! We did some TS lunches, since we had 10 park days. I don't know if that was the wisest decision, because by the end I still felt like there was stuff we didn't get to do.

La Cantina is a really cool area to eat, you're practically sitting out over the water and it's great on a nice night to eat there! You should definitely try it. Also, if you like churros, you will be in heaven because theirs are quite yummy!

This was our second time eating at Riverside Mill, but our first time for breakfast. Unfortunately, the previous night I had almost gotten sick. I have intestinal problems, and with the combination of what I had eaten and a slight flare up, it was not a good night. I was pretty upset because I didn't want to be sick on vacation, especially since it was so early in the trip. So mom and I decided to sleep in a bit, and this was going to be an easy day for us. She got up early and took lots of pics of Riverside while I slept and then got ready. I decided the best remedy to cheer me up after being sick was MICKEY WAFFLES! :lovestruc

So we headed down for a late breakfast, and it was almost empty. Pretty much everyone was at the parks already, I think it was after 10am. We ordered our waffles and found a table over by the windows in a small room where no one else was. I ordered the kid's waffle plate with bacon, and mom got the regular waffle with fruit. Here's mom with the yummy waffles, both big size and kid size, lol!

IMG_4744.jpg

IMG_4745.jpg

And a close up of the tray. The kid's plate came with bacon, applesauce, and a drink (I got orange juice). Mom's had fresh strawberries which looked delicious! Unfortunately at Riverside, they keep the kid's sides in little bins and the server puts them on your plate so my applesauce was warm and I could only eat a few bites of it. What can I say, I like my applesauce chilled, lol. I also had hot chocolate in my refillable mug.

By the end of breakfast I was feeling like myself again. Must have been the :wizard: magic of the waffles!!!

Now I won't get into all the details about our day, but we did end up at Coronado Springs for a visit, and I selected something from Cafe Rix to take back to Riverside for lunch. I'll save the whole story for when I do my TR (so you'll have to read that to find out! :lmao:)

We decided to eat our picnic lunch on Ol Man Island by the main pool at Riverside. I took pictures of our food in the room before we headed down, and mom refilled our mugs and we enjoyed a nice sunny picnic at one of the pool tables.

Mom's veggie wrap and grapes from Sunshine Seasons:

IMG_4835.jpg

IMG_4838.jpg

And my sandwich, it was a turkey and provolone with lettuce and tomato on the side with a cup of grapes.

IMG_4836.jpg

IMG_4839.jpg

And I just want to say, OMG, the bread on that sandwich was phenomenal! So light and fluffy and buttery. Yum. Since I wasn't really up to 100% yet, I didn't want to eat the lettuce and tomato, so mom cut them up and ate them like a salad with her veggie wrap. The sandwich was plain, so I got some mayo to put on it which dressed it up perfectly.

It was a great lunch, relaxing, and I even went for a quick swim after lunch before we got on with our day.

On my last trip, I had an ADR for Nine Dragons, but it didn't end up happening. I was happy to make another ADR here and excited to try a new restaurant. This place was beautiful inside!

IMG_4857.jpg

IMG_4859.jpg

We were seated almost immediately, and despite the restaurant being quite busy, the service was very quick! We got crayons to practice our Chinese characters on the placemats, I thought this was a cool touch! I snuck a pic of mom working on hers. The only downside is that the menu was made for right handed people, and since she's left handed, she had to turn it upside down to see the example, so I guess she learned Chinese upside down! :upsidedow

IMG_4851.jpg

And I decided once I tried to make some of the characters that I would try to copy the Nine Dragons logo in their fancy writing too.

IMG_4853.jpg

Mom ordered the vegetable and tofu stir-fry, which is exactly what it sounds like. It came with a side of white rice. She ate it all, because mom loves her veggies, so I'm guessing she enjoyed it!

IMG_4855.jpg

I ordered the honey sesame chicken, which also came with white rice as well as a small cold cucumber salad.

IMG_4856.jpg

I tried one bite of the little salad, and it wasn't for me, so that went happily to mom. You know, more veggies with her veggies! There was so much chicken on my plate that I didn't think I could eat half of it! It was so so so delicious. The sauce wasn't very heavy and each piece of chicken was hot and perfectly cooked. I ended up eating probably about 3/4 of the chicken and all of the rice before I had to call it quits, lol! This was my favorite meal of the trip so far, and it was quite cheap as well (for Disney food standards), so I would not hesitate to come back here again!

And a funny story from the night that I want to share. I worked with a guy from Texas a few years ago, and although he had no sort of accent to me at all, he did pronounce the work "crown" like the word "crayon". I used to joke with him and ask him to say crown just so I could hear "cray-owwwwwwn". Now, a family got seated next to us as we were finishing up dinner, and they had pretty thick southern accents. I never had a problem understanding our waiter or anything, but when the grandma of the group ordered a crown and coke, the waiter was super confused because she said it like "crayon" also. So he repeated back, "a crayon and coke?" and she said a crown royal and coke, and then he understood what she meant. I just made me chuckle inside and think of my coworker

 about the accent misunderstanding! Hmm..will have to read your TR to see the story about lunch. Sorry you weren't feeling well but glad the Mickey waffle helped to cheer you up! :)

I really like the look of your mum's veggie stir fry at Nine Dragons :thumbsup2

Yeah, the accent misunderstanding made me chuckle a little. Just one of those Disney stories you remember for awhile.

I'm gonna try to start my TR soon, but I want to get through a few more dining reviews before I commit to my TR...I have a lot of days to write about, and lots to share with everyone!

Luckily, that was the only time I felt sick on the trip, so :cool1: to that! And what better way to cheer yourself up than with Mickey waffles??

I really like the look of your mum's veggie stir fry at Nine Dragons :thumbsup2

Oh yeah, she loved it! If you want to see more delicious looking veggie dishes, stay tuned!!

Your dish from Nine Dragons looks so good. I haven't been there yet, so will have to consider it as a possible dinner when I go with my friend in June.

Really enjoying your report and am looking forward to more. :goodvibes

I will definitely be following your trip report as well once you get started. :thumbsup2

Nine Dragons was never big on my list of places to eat, but I had a great veggie option for my mom, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did, it was one of my favorite meals of the trip. There's something so great about simple, hot, filling food for me! I wish I was eating it again right now. You should definitely give it a try!

Thanks for following along! I can't wait to start my TR, I have so much to share. And mom took soooooo many pictures, which I will have to share with the DIS cause let's face it, we all love Disney pics!
