Can someone tell me what the stars on magic mean? Is it just trade value, or does the magic actually act differently?

It makes the effect longer or recharge faster.

Combining magic pins to add stars will either lengthen the time of the magic's effect or make the recharge time shorter, depending on which magic you are using.

Fireworks, Invisibility, Bat, and Inferno will last longer if you add stars. Teleportation will have a shorter recharge time with each star added.

I am not sure about Snowman magic. I know it does not make the effect last longer, but I think it may recharge faster than a single star.
Hopefully someone else will be able to help with Snowman magic. :teeth:

It's generally a very, very bad idea to base a trade on a claim of how many "stars" a magic pin has, because the trade window does NOT show how many stars a magic pin has.

Many people have been told that they will receive a "5-star", do the trade, and then find that they have received a "1-star" instead. A typical scammer will have in their inventory both a 5-star and a 1-star magic pin, demonstrate the long-lasting 5-star pin, but then trade the 1-star pin.

Trader beware.

how do you combine them?
Have them both in your inventory (NOT being worn), select one, select "combine pins", select the other one, confirm that you really want to do it, and then you're done. You can only combine magic pins of the same type -- that is, you can combine 2 fireworks pins, but NOT 1 fireworks and 1 invisibility pin.

Combining is NOT reversible, so be sure you really want to do it.

Yes, always be sure when you trade for more than 1 star of magic that the number of pins you get equals the number of stars. For example, if you trade for 4 star fireworks magic, make sure you receive 4 fireworks pins. And if you're the one doing the trading, never combine magic pins you plan to trade unless it's someone you know well and trust and vice versa (such as a parent) that you're trading with, or if you're giving it as a gift or quest prize. Otherwise, only combine it if you yourself are going to use it.

I'd also suggest making sure you're wearing any multi-star magic before you trade. You don't want to accidentally trade away your 5 star magic when you should be trading a 1 star.
