One person, one room, double occupancy?

The dilemma.
My brother wants to come to WDW with us in September, he always wants his own room. He wants to try and take advantage of free dining and value resort rates just as we did. There are 3 people in my room and we cannot change the set up (another story and not the time nor place to get into it now) Its booked and we cant change it. This means he has to book by himself if he cannot find someone else to go (like a friend or his girlfriend).

Example: If it says 5 nights 6 days $435 pp based on double occupancy (includes resort stay, park pass), this means he will have to pay $435 x 2 if he is staying himself, correct?

How do you get around this? When you have single travelers?

thanks.

Disney does accommodate single travelers and would discount a little, if it is free dinning it may not be much at all. Call and ask how much it would cost it may be a lot less then you think....... :thumbsup2

AFAIK, the cost of the room in the cost of the room, regardless of whether 1 or 2 people are staying in it. The only time that would increase is if more than 2 adults were staying in the room. Then his ticket cost will be for one adult for whatever number of days.

He would only pay $435. He would not pay for a second person since there isn't one.

At least that is how it was years ago when my sister booked a Gold plan for herself when she joined us.

It would be the price listed, not the price listed times 2.

When it says "based on double occupancy", that just means they are pricing the room as though at least 2 adults are staying there. That way, if your brother can find someone else to go, the cost per person would be half that listed price. As it is, your brother will be responsible for that listed price by himself.

We booked a second room on our upcoming trip for my mother. She will be the only person staying in the room. We paid the regular room rates with a AAA discount. There was no discount for being alone.

So basically what you are saying is, he would pay whatever the room cost is per night, plus his park pass, plus dining whether it be free or not? So if it is $79.00 per night he is not splitting it with anyone else?

I'm going to go to disney's website or call myself and ask Disney. i wanted to avoid this but I guess that is impossible. i dont trust him to do it himself.

I will let you guys know the outcome.

Thanks!

The Disney hotels are not like the Disney cruise ships whereby a solo traveler has to pay a higher fee (nearly double) to occupy a stateroom desinated for 2. Put 3 adults in that hotel room, however, and there will be an additional adult fee charged.

Actually, I think they are. A room that has a rate of $79 is $79 whether 2 people are in it or one.

The savings would be on the park tickets.

just spoke with disney reservations, this is what i got....

$713.63 one person

$988.76 for 2 people (it would be $494.38 per person)

I booked it for him now it is his choice to decide if he wants to pay $200+ more to stay by himself or try and get another person to go along.

this includes

POP std room 6 days
base ticket 6 days
free dining plan

thanks for all of your help!

In other words for 5 nights at 435 per person he would pay $671 if he wanted the room for himself. ( I deducted $199 the price for the extra ticket included in the price they give)

Hang on! I think you're still a bit confused on this. It's good news!!!! He does not need to pay more for the room just because he's alone. There is no single occupancy surcharge at Disney resorts. The room will cost him exactly the same amount, let's say 79 dollars, whether he's alone, with another adult, or with another adult and two children. He will not need to pay for his dining during the free dining promotion (assuming he gets in there and books it while there's still availability). He will then pay for his park pass too (but certainly not for two park passes).

You can go and check out the price online without seeing the process through to the end so play around with some figures, resorts and dates and see what prices you come up with.

Also, what you could do, is do a 'room only' price online. You'll see that whether you put '2 adults' or '1 adult' the room price will come out the same.

EDITED TO SAY: I read this thread again and I think I'm the one who's confused. :lmao: Disregard what I said above. lol!!

The confusion here is PACKAGEs (like the free dining package) are priced per person. So you pay for your tickets and your fraction of the room. If there is only one, then that one has to pay the full amount of the room.

He is going to ask his G/F tonight if she wants to go with him. If she says no and he still wants to go by himself then he will pay the extra $212.00. You guys are right, if it is $79 per night its $79 per night. Being a single traveler he's not sharing the $79 per night, this being he would pay the higher price not having a roommate. Its booked, now its up to him.

BTW- he does this EVERY year at the last minute! so frustrating!

Actually its different because the cruise ship will advertise, for example $1500 per person based on double occupancy. So if there is only a solo traveller it will be $3000 (ok maybe a little bit less for a solo discount) but in the case of cruises when its an advertised price its "per person" based on double occupancy as opposed to the hotel which is advertised $79 based on double occupancy which is not "per person", its per hotel room.

ETA: If the package is the issue, book room only and pay OOP so no surcharge. Or if during free dining, book a one day base tix. If you are required to pay for 2 packages, you get free dining for the price of one extra base tix. If that base tix isn't used it won't expire. The base tix he intends to use can be upgraded. At least this is my undertanding.
