Hi:

Here's the scoop: my motherinlaw is taking the entire family (nephews, neices, aunts, uncles, etc.) on a Disney cruise next year. There will be about 16 of us in all, including kids. She has already arranged rooming arrangements - we're all in Category 9 rooms.

My husband and I (married 2 yrs) and two teenage stepsons are sharing a room. I am a little concerned that a) the room will be too small for all of us and b) living 7 days in such close proximity has me a little nervous (where to change, etc.) And on a secondary note, I'm also a little nervous cause one stepson has bad foot odor and I'm wondering if the room will become stifling!

Do I need to be concerned? A part of me wants to appreciate my mother in law's incredible generousity; the other part of me is nervous that the 4 of us in such small space might now work out. These are my stepsons, and while we get along fine, I don't feel comfortable walking around partially clothed, etc.!!

If you think this is an issue, I can work with my husband to carefully figure out a way to pay our own way for another room without offending m-i-l.

Thoughts?? I don't think we'll spend much time in the room and I can be game for anything. But I want to be warned if I need to be, before it's too late!!

and I forgot to mention, that I also have a stepdaughter (7) but she is staying in an aunt's room. Are the suites a deal for a family of 5?

If you could swing the $, I would book another room for the teenagers for two main reasons.
1 - privacy
2 - you will have an extra bathroom to cut down on time getting ready for dinner and shows.

We got two rooms for our teen son and his friend when we sailed on the Wonder a couple of years ago. We also have two rooms booked on the Magic for next spring break. It worked out perfectly.

Hope this helps:wave2:

You may want to check into having the 2 staterooms. There may not be that much of a price difference if you go down to 2 inside category 11's for the 4 of you, check into it with Disney and then broach the subject with you MIL. I travel with my 3 kids and love having the extra space and the extra bathroom.

I would want two staterooms. I think the idea of downgrading to a lower cabin would work well. You could offer to pay the difference to MIL. Say the older children need their space and you feel awkward in such small quarters changing etc. Oh and by the way....unless you are quite wealty..
The suites are VERY expensive.. much more so than two cat.9 room
Edited to add that adjoining cabins would be perfect, then it could be almost like a suite. You could even offer to allow the other step child to stay in your cabin and have the two teenaged sons in the other adjoining one freeing up the aunt.

Although our situation is different (DS 8 & 10), the cabins have the split bathroom and a privacy curtain (don't forget the "Chip Clip") and I feel offer more privacy than most standard hotel rooms. They are however much smaller. Also, if you check on the second cabin, be sure to ask if they can guarantee connecting cabins (they may not be able to.)

Just remember the first two people booked in a cabin are priced as adults.

Look at it this way, you are getting two rooms for the price of one. You get two bathrooms, twice the closet space, privacy, and olfactory relief.

I gotta go with the two rooms.

What about paying for a category 10 or 12 across the hall for your boys. You keep the room your MIL selected, but the teenagers are opposite you and your husband. You'll have to shift names on the reservations as one of the adults will need to be in each room on paper, but you can split it up as you wish.

Great idea. My brother just did exactly this on a cruise last summer with his two sons. Said it worked great.

for sure, my grandma is paying for us to go on a 7 day in Feb, and it's going to be my dad, his GF, her sister, Grandma and me. Dad wanted to get 1 cabin to save grandma money, I said NOW FREAKIN WAY, 5 people in one cabin for a week. So we got 2 cabins in a lower level and it was only $200 more. We were orginally booked in a verandah cabin, noy DLC, now we have outside cabins . I'm still not looking forward to sharing a cabin. I hope Dad, GF and grandma have one cabin and GF sister and I have the other one.

Nobody has mentioned the MOST IMPORTANT reason for getting separate rooms for the kids: so you can SHAG :jumping2: morning noon and night!

I also have to agree to do it for privacy and the 2 bathrooms.

Pay the difference and have fun!!!!
