Last month, I helped my daughter out with a vet bill for $319 for a stray cat they found that needed surgery (after she put the $100 her grandmother gave her for Christmas, I was left with $219).
Now I have a horse in the horsepital.
The horse has an ulcer on his eye. We've (meaning us and the vets) been treating him for two weeks and had to leave him Friday. Normal treatments don't seem to be working. Today, they said give them a call back on Wednesday, and we'll talk again. They're in the process of consulting with an equine opthalmologist. I don't even want to think about what this is going to cost by the time we're done (even though our vets are very generous with us).
He's the horse our daughter learned to ride on 13 years ago, and we love him. He's the only "pasture horse" (meaning non-breed specific) that we own, but he's the smartest one in the pasture by far. I hope he's feeling better soon.
And someone abandoned a kitten at my house over the holidays who is going to need to be neutered. At this rate, I'm going to find an extra job...
