One-night split stay: crazy or not?

We are looking forward to an 8-night stay at PVB in mid-September. Last night we realized that because of work schedules, we could add an extra night. PVB was not available, but VGF was, so we booked it and began to get excited about trying GF for the first time, even if for only our first night and at risk of a minor hassle.

Now I see that PVB is available, at the same room type as our other nights, and I'm hemming/hawing about switching the reservation.

Am I crazy? Worth the hassle maybe, or no way? Help me with my mental coin flip!

PS- first world problems and all that; we're super psyched about either of these places.

We often stay in a different resort on our arrival day - mostly because we fly from the west coast and arrive late so we book a studio for the first night then move to a 1BR. Or sometimes it's just because flights worked better and we're just taking what we can get. But no, I don't think it's crazy to try out a resort for a night.

A one night stay is wasteful IMO, you don't have time to see the resort, you check out at 11 and it just disrupts the vacation.

I would not change for the last night.

I have an upcoming 4 night stay to celebrate my 2 new knees! I found out that I could travel only 6 weeks before my travel dates, and only SSR was available. I admit, I have looked and I could have gotten BCV for our last night, but I think my common sense won out. We are staying put. That room could be ready at 4!

The VGF is beautiful, but not worth the hassle in my opinion!

I agree that I wouldn't change for the last night but I thought they were talking about the first night.

Plenty of time to check out a resort if you just want to get a feel, at least it is for us.

Hmmm... varied opinions, as I thought. It would be for the first night, and we'll be arriving pretty early that day. The upside, as we see it, would be an opportunity to check out the GF as a guest for the first time as well as a VGF room, and it seemed like the relocation might not be a big deal given the proximity. Thanks for all the responses so far, everyone.

It doesn't matter if the resorts are next to each other or not, you still can use Bell Services to transfer your luggage, you check out at 11 and in after 4. Our latest room ready time was 7:30 at SSR. IMO GF/VGF needs more than one night to really check it out and get a feel for the place.

Thanks all for the sanity check- my wife decided discretion was the better part of valor in this case, and we just went with the 9 contiguous nights... should be spectacular, and we'll stay in VGF another time.

A one-night split is nothing to be concerned about.
DW and I went with our DD, who was the lead person for her company at a convention at the CR. She had a room on the seventh floor, with view of MK, and concierge level access.
We booked the night before at OKW. Went over to CR @07:00, checked in and the room was ready. Went back to OKW, got DW, moved into CR, and went to breakfast in the CR-CL.

Guess that means DH and I are insane.
I agree with you. Except, I am probably more insane because we don't just do it for the first night any more. It is completely personal preference.
The more we have done split stays, the more I like them. We are not park commandos. We spend a lot of time at the resorts now. You have to check out by 11:00 but you can go to the pool, have a late lunch, throw the swimsuits in a small backpack or bag and head of to a park or dtd before going to the next resort.
We recently stayed for only 4 nights and did 2 nights at one resort and then 2 at another. We thought it was one of our best vacations.

We're doing this in Aug: PVB 1 night then BCV for a week. We get to try a new resort and the updated pool (no pool hopping allowed). Plus we decided to get the DxDP for that first night and have enough points for 2 dinners and refillable mugs for the entire stay. We're not going to unpack until we get to BCV.
I think it works great - have done this before.

I say Do it. Spend as much time at the resort and go for dinner at one of the nice GF restaurants.

Love split stays. It makes the trip fun by changing things up. Especially if you're staying somewhere new.

We've done it in the past right after purchasing our points. We were able to get one night in BLT (our home) before moving over to BWV for 6 more days. We knew we were headed down to WDW that summer and when we were able to book (2 months out), I was able to piece that together. No place had 7 days together, (which we wanted for cheaper airfare) and seeing as how BLT is our home, we chose that over AKK. We did a quick afternoon lunch and 1 ride in MK before spending the rest of the day at BLT, and most of the next day. Had a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's (so I could hang with Donald), and eventually made our way over to BWV after spending some time at EPCOT.

The thing about me and staying places is that I've backpacked 2 different continents and slept on dirt floors and marble benches in train stations. I get what Bill says about not getting the full feel of a resort in a day, but we all operate differently and a full day putzing around is all I need to get a feel of a place. Doing it again this summer with a night at the Poly before heading over to BLT.

If you're game, go for it.

We split all the time. A lot of the time we'll fly in and stay a night at the All Stars, switch to AKV for a night or two and off to our home at VWL.
Just call Bell services when your heading to the park. If your concerned about a room location head straight over to that resort and check in. They will let you know by text later in the day your room while your at the park. Swing by Bell services or call them when you arrive to your room and they'll bring everything up to you. We pack a day bag with bathing suits and maybe shirts and shorts.

I don't think a split stay for 1 night is crazy at all...especially for the first night.

It's easy. Pack the bulk of your suitcase with everything you need for your trip. Then pack an overnight back for your one night. As soon as you arrive, just give your big suitcase to bell services and say you're transferring. Then you don't even have to deal with it at all...unpacking, repacking, etc. Then as you're getting ready for the day, throw all your stuff in to the overnight bag and give that one to bell services in the morning after you leave.

I would be out and about on my first day that it won't matter that much if I don't have a home-base from 11am to 5pm.

Also it lets you try out a resort you think you might like. If you don't like it, then it's just for one night and you have something to look forward to.

Since it is your first night, I would not see any problem with doing it. That way you will be able to check into PVB early the next morning. :goodvibes
