:cool1: Leaving for our first SSR trip next week. I know where Goodings is and how to get there from SSR. Now, if I leave SSR, get to the corner facing Crossroads, if I go Left or Right is there a supermarket relatively close that is a little more reasonable than Goodings. I don't want to waste a lot of time shopping, if there's nothing real close, I'll just suck it up and go to Goodings. We have two-two bedroom units and 9 people on this trip, so I need to make a fairly good sized grocery run. Thanks...any help is greatly appreciated. :flower1:

If oyu go left at that corner there will be a Winn Dixie down the road on the right hand side...maybe 5-10 minutes. They are more reasonably priced than Goodings.

Yes - Winn-Dixie. We just got back from a week at SSR, and found W-D much better than Goodings.

When you're at the intersection where going straight would take you into Crossroads, turn left. About a mile - less, I think, there's a Winn-Dixie on the right hand side of the road.

I would definitely avoid Goodings if you can. When we went there last year, my brother-in-law paid $50 for a bag of groceries that would have cost him $30 anywhere else (and that's not an exaggeration). If you are buying for nine people, you definitely will save a lot of money to go someplace else!

The Winn Dixie left of Goodings--it is my favorite--I like the fresh food sections, etc.

If you take a right at Crossroads, stay in the left lane, and turn left just after the I-4 overpass, go 1-1.5 miles and there will be a Publix. Its much more traffic than to the W-D, and I like it less, but it is there.

Thank you all so very much...I was sure there had to be on closer. Winn Dixie it is! Thanks again!

There is also a great Publix supermarket 10 mins away on rt 192 west.It has a great selection of health foods and organics,a bakery, hot food just about anything your looking for.My son has special food needs and we used to bring everything down with us from New York. What a great store because we can find everything there on the shelves. If you go out the back gate take rt 4 west to 192 north...10 mins on the right side before you get to rt 27. if you hit 27 theres a win-dix to the right and another Publix to the left.

There is also a pretty good "adult beverage" shop in the same strip mall that Winn-Dixie is in, if that is a need for your party (it is for ours!) :drinking1

WD also has a shopper discount card which you can get. I have one for home and will be taking it with me!

Kristielee,

Our first couple years as owners at OKW (1994-96) we went to Goodings all the time. Extremely pricey. Any time we inquired about a grocery store, we were always directed to Goodings only. We got into a disussion with a CM about grocery stores (many years ago) and were told that Disney had an ownership interest in the Goodings store just outside the gate by Downtown Disney. We looked at each other and thought..no wonder that's the only grocery store they ever refer guests to.

We've gone to the Super Target off of 536 and Hwy 17 (I think it's Orange Blossom--but not sure) for years. Usually stop by on our way from OIA to Disney. $100 easily buys a weeks worth of groceries for us. We would have spent closer to $250 trying to buy that from Goodings.

Things that make you go hmmmmmm,

I think Disney owned the land and buildings in where Goodings is. They sold it a couple of years ago. We use the WD up the road.

We always use the Winn-Dixie for our groceries. I think the prices are reasonable, I have one of the shopper cards. It's never crowded. We used to go all the way to the Super Walmart on 192, that place was a zoo.

In fact, you can apply for your Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card on-line here. They'll mail it to you. Of course, since the OP is leaving next week, they can do it at the store. When we went early this month, they had a lot of "Reward Card" sales on typical DVC/vacation purchases.

Just another plug for Publix....you don't need a shopper card to get the specials there. I find that very convenient for shopping while travelling. I don't generally carry my chain full of keytags on vacation.

I don't really care for Winn-Dixie stores in general....but I didn't really know that until I lived here in the south. Publix is definitely one of my more favored grocery chains. As someone else mentioned, they have good selections of organic, natural and specialty foods, which is very helpful when family members have special dietary needs.

In October we made our first grocery store trip and tried the Publix on 192....it was great. Decent prices and an excellent selection.
We even found a way to avoid 192---take a right onto Black Lake Road prior to reaching 192.

In my home town the WD's are all about closed. the stores were just plain nasty. I found the one near SSR very nice. It was still alot more than I am used to paying for stuff, but it was alot better than Goodings. plus they carry Cheerwine. Can't go a week without it.

There is a new Walmart Supercenter on Hwy 27 just north of the west end of 192. I've always used the Walmart in Kissimee (truly a zoo) and was pleasantly surprised by the space and cleanliness of the new store. And the prices beat most anywhere else.

Just a little FYI, I forgot my card and just gave them my phone number (Illinois number) and it worked! SO if you have a card and forget it.... just give them your phone number!

Yes, from the crossroads intersection, if you break left on Rt 535 is the Winn Dixie. There is also a Papa John's Pizza next to WD. On our first night, we order pizza, go shop at WD and pick up the hot pizza as we leave WD. Makes an easy meal without the hassles of cooking or waiting in a restaurant.

On Rt 535, if you make a right at The Crossroads intersection is an new Super Wal-mart under construction--a few miles past I-4 on the right hand side. When I saw it last, (second week of Dec 04) it looked as if it will be open by the time we arrive next May. (My guess will be by Feb '05???)

Hopes this helps some of you.

We have tried them all. Really don't like the Winn-Dixie. We went down Thanksgiving and there is a new Publix just the other side of I-4. It is right beside the large Catholic Church that sits beside the interstate. From WDW you turn right out of the gate dear Goodings and go under the interstate. Take the next left next to a Bahama Breeze (I think) restaurant. The road winds around to the Publix. This store has a great selection of everything and good prices. You may want to ask for better directions than I can give. It's only about 10 minutes from WDW at the most.
