Dd and family must use their plane tickets by March 8th. She will have delivered her baby by the end of December. We are vacillating back and forth about when to come especially now that we read a thread concerning roto virus. Can anyone out there help us with some advice? Baby is our main concern. Should she (my daughter) stay home while everyone else comes (hardest thing in the world to do) or should she come along for the 7 night stay? Thanks everyone in advance for your thoughts.

Just my thoughts:

If this was the first baby, then I might be a bit apprehensive of the germs both on the flight and WDW. However, if the baby has brothers and sisters that are in daycare then I think that the chances of getting roto virus at the WORLD are just as much a possibility as at home.

If it was me and I had other children, I would probably take the baby, but I would also take a killer amount of Clorox wipes (for when in the public), hand sanitizer, and lysol for the hotel room.

I would also make sure that the baby's hands are covered. This might discourage any well-intentioned strangers from being able to touch her/his hands. And if the baby was in the stroller, I would always make sure that he/she would be facing me as much as possible. OR keep the top of the stroller pulled down. While this does not make the germs go away, it limits the number of people who want to stop and admire the lovely new baby. :)

Also, if there were enough adults along, then you could take turns taking care of the baby at the hotel, so that everyone got to enjoy the parks and your daughter could still be included if she so chose.

Good luck!!!

First thing I'd do is check with the airlines to see if they have restrictions on how young a baby can fly. I thought I heard somewhere that it is usually six weeks, but I may be wrong.

The other thing to think of is if the mother has to have a c-section (which you can't predict these days), then she would need to take it easy for a while and a trip to Disney would definitely push the envelope.

I took my youngest when he was 10 weeks old and everything worked out fine (I had a c-section too and it wasn't a problem). He slept most of the time and we just took things slower than normal. We still had a great time and his first picture with Mickey is in his little carrier with Mickey peeking it. It's priceless!

I would not think it would be a good idea to take one that age. First, if the infant is a few weeks over due you could be taking about a two week old child. Feburary is also middle of flu season as well as RVS season. I know that our pediactic office would not ok a trip for a child this young. They recommend no crowded areas for the first 6 weeks or so. I would think that air travel would be a big no no. To me the risk is just too high.
I would hope that DD would not get left home alone either. Is dad in the picture? I would think that he would want to stay home with a new baby. If not someone needs to be there with her. Plenty of other changes to enjoy WDW. In our family the rule is 6 months old. Just IMHO. Some people think 6 years old is the younges and other do not have a problem with a 6 week old.
I would be very sure to get trip insurance if you decide to try this.

My daughter was 6 weeks when we went to visit family for thanksgiving. I had 2 other children at home in school. At 7 weeks we went to WDW for a week. We flew (SW) and when we came home she was 8 weeks. I DID not stay home for the first 6 weeks. As a matter of fact, I went home when she was 20 hours old....as for rotovirus, the baby could get it at home just as easily...plus, there are doctores & hospitals everywhere. it's not like you are going to the middle of the jungle!!

I don't mean to be rude, but keeping a baby away from the world is just not practical and very "medically managed". Else where in the world women bring their babies everywhere at every age. So tell dd to bring the baby!

I'd do it again in a heart beat.

I'd go - but plan for at two months, not one month. The flights are by March 8th, so you have time for two months old instead. If there's a c-section, a month will be pushing it. The temperment of baby is key too.

It was hard to go anywhere until well past a year with my son. My daughter is 2 months old and we leave for disney in a week. BUT - she doesn't scream her head off in the car, she will sleep in the sling, she breastfeeds quickly, she sleeps well at night, etc. She's pretty much the opposite of my son. I did have a c-section and feel ready to go.

I just had a baby and had our trip planned 6 months before she was born. We thought she would be approx. 7-8 weeks when we were going but she came 2 weeks earlier and now she will be about 10 weeks. My pediatrician suggested waiting at least til she was 6 weeks old. We took our now 2 year old when she was 3 months and we had no problems either.

Also, I had a c-section about 5 weeks ago and I could do Disney with no problem. That's just me.

I would have her talk to her pediatrician. Then make her decision.

I would be extremely hesitant to bring a newborn to WDW at the height of cold and flu season. I heard a doctor once say you would be more likely to get sick at WDW than travelling to an exotic country due to the fact that so many people from around the world travel to WDW. I've become ill at WDW countless times now. In fact just came home with a cold and cough a couple of weeks ago. On another trip I picked up the chicken pox and I am 33.
Also will the baby keep everyone up at night when sharing a hotel room? Doesn't really sound like much of a vacation if the whole trip will revolve around the newborn's schedule and preventing him or her from getting sick.
