Hi all,

I took my 17 1/2 year old cat Rachel to the vets this afternoon and she is gone now. He found a small mass in her lower belly. It was so hard to let her go. I had gotten her right after I lost my Mom to cancer and she had been with me for over seventeen years. I knew this weekend she was not doing well and knew I would have to bring her in. The whole thing rots. I am going to put her in one of the flower beds in the back yard......I cannot part with her. What a day this has been. I need......i don't know what I need but I sure will miss her. In the last years she had gone deaf and over the winter she had lost weight....I really did not think she was going to make it thru the winter.....

So sad,

Truly sad for you..

I lost 2 cats recently (we had a fire in our house while my DH and I were on our honeymoon) and I completely understand the pain you are feeling. You are definately grieving a part of your family! :sad1:

My heart goes out to you, Betsy!

I am so sorry to hear this. It is so hard to lose a furbaby. Hugs to you... someday you will be ready for a purring baby again.

Betsy and cats - I am sorry for both of your losses. Pets are such special parts of our lives, it is so hard to see them go.

Maybe you can find a link to Dan Murphy's rainbow bridge. It is beautiful and comforting.

I'm so sorry. :(

At least she had a good home for 17 years.

cats7494- wow thats terrible! I don't know what to say!

betsy,

I recently went through the same thing with my 14 yr old cat. It was hard. But then right away I went to the shelter and brought 2 new cats home (June is Adopt a Cat Month by the way) and they have brought me such joy.

also the "Rainbow Bridge" story is also on actioncat.com

i'm so sorry for your loss...

i went through a similar thing a few years ago with my ex-husband's cat. alex had been a happy plump cat for the longest time. and then we noticed him losing weight...took him to the vet and she thought it was a food allergy. a month later, he was very sick...rushed him to the vet and she found a small mass in his tummy. there was nothing they could do...

i'm so sorry...

:( :sad1:  - I am so sorry to hear about your little furbaby. I know how special kitties are.

:( I am so sorry. Losing a fur baby is so very sad. They are such devoted friends to us.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty.

I'm so sorry. I was in your shoes a year ago!! Not easy but something that has to be done.

Sorry for your loss. Pets are such big parts of our families.

 I know it's hard to lose a pet, especially one that has been with you for that long.

Betsy,

So sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Rachel. It is always hard to let them go. Take comfort in the wonderful memories you have of your sweet kitty.

So sorry to hear that, Bets, sad. :( Having Rachel for so long, so difficult. Knowing she is closeby, there on your property, will be a comfort. And know well Rachel is at the bridge.....

And cats7494, for you also, a , so sorry to hear of your loss.

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Thank you all..............the rainbow bridge story made me grab for the puffs box again. We just told the kids. My daughter is a mess......who knew that this 5 year old would be this upset. Thanks for the link to Rainbow Bridge.
