What's obnoxious is that an ADULT would complain about a CHILD needing a small flashlight to feel safe on a ride. Grow up, people. We were all scared children at one point.

I have to say my peace on this as well, and it's really quite simple to comprehend ....

If a child, teen, or adult cannot be on a ride and enjoy it as is intended by the developer, then that person should not be on the ride. Period. This age of perceived self-entitlement makes me sick. No, you do not have the right to KNOWINGLY bring somebody onto a ride and allow him/her to disturb or ruin the ride for others.

We have grown up to respect others -- apparently, some have not, sadly.

I wanted SOOO badly to say to them when we got off, "If this had been our first time on POTC it would have been completely ruined because of you"...but I couldn't do it. I am not aggressive and don't like to cause trouble. The fact is my DD and I have ridden Pirates a hundred times at least so we pretty much just rolled our eyes and dealt with it, even though I know they should have been put in their place.

you should have said it! Ignorant or inconsiderate people need to be taught what is proper behavior.

Is it bad that I was thoroughly entertained reading this entire thread? I should be working right now, but instead I was reading these posts with great eagerness People going off on each other about flash photography and flashlights. So much fun!

We have never been to Disney, but will be arriving in one month.
I solemnly vow that we will not use anything that lights up that will distract other guests on the rides.
I just hope no one else does, either!

I would stop reading DIS!

you may have never realized this is an issue....or it wouldn't have registered immediately...and now you be looking for it and possible pre-loaded with frustration as you board a dark ride.

there are plenty more of these types of annoyances that people discuss....just walk away now while you are still innocent!

We were on POTC once with a "flasher" and some smart young men taught me what to do about it. The first time the lady flashed they said "1" loudly enough for her to hear, but not too loud. And it continued. "2", "3", by "4" I had joined in and by "5" she got the message and capped her lens. I will do that again next time.

This is true... before DIS, you could be blissfully unaware of the BTG, you wouldn't have a strong opionon on things like people blowing bubbles in lines, getting out of line to go to the bathroom, whether or not you can 'save' spots at a parade, flash photography on rides, etc. etc.

But if you pre-load on DIS, you could arrive at DW ready to maim the first bubble-blower you see because you got into it with an online pro-bubble-blower!

All I can say is that when I'm on vacation, I try not to let anything get to me, as I'm spending money on this trip and I'm going to enjoy it regardless of what others do. Perhaps, this is why it's not a big "brew ha ha" for me.

I'm very much afraid of heights and roller coasters. But I'm pondering the idea of trying BTMRR. Since OP feels it's okay to do whatever is necessary for her family's enjoyment and to heck with other people's, I wonder if I could have the BMTRR operators slow the ride down to kiddie speed, just for me?????????? Everybody else may be bored out of their minds, but that's okay, I wouldn't be scared on it. <grin>

I really wish Disney would do something about it (although I'm not sure what the appropriate response would be).

1 automatic demerit on your MagicBand. Get enough of them, and you can't pull FPs and there's a 10% surcharge on everything you purchase using it.

This thread has been a fun read at lunchtime - I'm glad there are still SOME considerate people out there who realize it's not all about them.

This really could apply to the OP also, who for whatever reason seems determined to keep starting threads this week about hackneyed and oft-discussed WDW issues.

She better get the "reusable mug" and "FP runner joining their party on line" threads going before RFID and FP+ kills both issues.

Perhaps in cahoots with the unrepentant "flasher" on some social experiment?

Never heard of the bubble one. I guess I haven't been around long enough. I'll have to do a search... After work.

It's cool. The DIS has been FANTASTIC with arming me with knowledge for our first trip. This kind of thread aside, I truly feel prepared on how to tackle the parks thanks to all of the questions and comments. I can't even imagine what our trip would look like if it hadn't been for the conversations shared on the DIS. So, I'm happy to have read the good...and the bad.

I guess I was just reading this thread because it looked funny. And it was.

No "pre-loaded frustrations" for us, for realz. My pre-conceived notions of our trip to WDW are this: Our trip is going to be magical, no matter what!

If dark rides bothered my child, then we wouldn't ride. We'd wait until she was more comfortable with that type of attraction before we did.
