I was justthinkiong about all the special effects, etc. I miss on rides because of my fears,

gosh darn it! what ever happened to roller coasters just going up and down and around? I never felt like I was missing anything!!!:rotfl:

at Universal,I really wanted to ride forbidden Journey. hubby rode it first, and even though he couldn't see much, he told me, "honey, if I told you you would like it and you rode on my OK, you would kill me; ok , your choice"

why did they have to stick that darned yeti in the everest ride? and the ghost holograms on TOT? man I am missing so much cause of myfear of heights!

there are some rides that are scary. some in some ways, some in others. as your kids get older, they can expereince more and more rides than those that are in fantasyland.

but it isn't fair to others around you to shine lights, etc to make a scary ride NOT scary. not all kids are old enough for all rides. kinda ruins the whole point of the ride for others.

I'm intregued-people have issues with bubble blowing? Seriously there are people in the world who don't like bubbles?
That's why we bring the taser.

"Blow a square one Timmy!"
ZZZZZZZAAAAP!!!!
"Timmy nooooo! Why did we give our boy bubbles?!? WHY?! ... and why did he bring a taser to Disney World?..."

"I did it for the DIS Boards."

While I agree but just so you knoqw child swap can only be used on rides with a height requirment that they don't meet not any rides that someone is too scared to ride (like HM)

well, techinically, depends on the CM. probably more often on rides like rockin rollercoaster.

since HM has the least friendly and/or trained CMs as regards to disablities, I would guess you are probably right.

sometime s as a family, you have to make choices.

when there is a family in the next doom buggy flashing a light around, loudly saying "look max, it's not real.. look max it's not so scary" kinda ruins the whole effect and the whole purpose of the ride.

and when the flashlight makes it so your eyes dont' readjust to the dark to the point where you can actually see anything until the ride is almost over., nuff said.

dark rides are supposed to be DARK.

ya know, the ride is SUPPOSED to be scary. there are some "not so scary" scary rides. (well, they did just take one away, snow white) but the haunted mansion is NOT in fantasyland. it is actually NOT a little kids ride. it is supposed to be scary. supposed to be dark.

if you have a little one who is not old enough, mature enough, or still afraid of the dark, then I guess this isn't the ride for them.. use the child swap.

if you think they are on the "edge", ie. they just mgiht like it, let's try it, then a little gow stick held down where only they can see it, is fine.

DARK rides are supposed to be DARK.

I don't like heights. or steep drops. you know what? I dont' ride roller coasters. I would reallylike to be able to experience the yeti (well, I guess alot of peopel would, but that's a whole dif. subject. lol).

I would also like to see the hologram ghosts in the hallways of tower of terror.

guess what , if you are afraid of something in the ride, you just bow out of it. you don't get to experience that.

Right?!

Well, at the very least I bet every time the pp gets on a ride and whips out her camera, this post comes to mind and they have a wave of guilt. :headache:

If our kids were uncomfortable on the rides, we comforted them. My husband or I sat with them, held them, let them bury their faces, etc. All the while quietly urging them to be quiet so they didn't disturb others. If they didn't want to ride, we talked to them about it, tried to encourage them to ride. If they still didn't want to go, guess what, they didn't have to ride.

We taught them that intruding on others life is not generally acceptable. We didn't allow them to run amok in stores, taught them how to use their indoor voices, how to whisper in quiet places when needed, not to beg incessently for something, etc.

We didn't allow our kids to call out for us over and over and over without answering them like way too many people ignore theirs or tune their out. Guess what, not everyone else can tune out the annoyance.

Bottom line, sorry, but even glow sticks take away from the ride experience. If you bring them, please teach your child to keep them tucked away for their eyes only. The lit up screens on phones, cameras, etc., all take away from the ride experience. Turn off the screens. And flashes or flashlights, don't use them at all. If you've ridden the ride a few times, that doesn't give you the right to talk through the preshow or the ride itself. The person beside you may be on their first ride, don't ruin it for them.

I have to say my peace on this as well, and it's really quite simple to comprehend ....

If a child, teen, or adult cannot be on a ride and enjoy it as is intended by the developer, then that person should not be on the ride. Period. This age of perceived self-entitlement makes me sick. No, you do not have the right to KNOWINGLY bring somebody onto a ride and allow him/her to disturb or ruin the ride for others.

We have grown up to respect others -- apparently, some have not, sadly.

And you have summed up much of what is wrong in this nation. I would never expect people to manipulate their plans or enjoyment for my family. ;) We miss out on things because of my health issues; our family offers to change their plans around for us and we politely thank them and decline. I could not imagine expecting the world to revolve around me. ;)

Just curious what your view on the ADA is? I have said myself that strobing on a dark ride is beyond the Pale. But someone with gimp legs is definitely manipulating your plans when they eat up 2 bus spaces with their ecv.

Or what about someone who gets vertigo easily due to a concussive head trauma, a dim light on their shoes can help them maintain their sense of up and down.

There's such a thing as reasonable accommodation that should be made to our fellow members of society. I don't mean in the legal sense of the term, just an element of grace we may extend to each other.

Exactly. I said I take photos on rides and other people didn't agree with me. So I was called obnoxious. All the times I've been to Disney, no one has ever asked me to stop or complained about it. Ive also been on many rides where people around me were taking pictures and I never complained. What a shock!

Clearly, some people think that being a member on Disboards makes them the Disney police. If a Cast Member was to tell me to stop, I would right away...but not other tourists. News flash guys, over 1,000 posts on Disboards doesn't give you entitlement!

It's really comical at this point...I knew this would happen.

Ok I have to say this.. So the signs and announcements to not use flash photography on the rides doesn't count as you being told not to?!? Just asking

I believe Disney says no flash photography on any of its rides. If you can't manage to take a photo without turning off your flash, maybe you need to take a basic photography class. And, for the most part, the flash is totally worthless since it will only light up things a few feet away.

I'm one of those people that doesn't go nuts if someone takes pictures on a ride. I do it myself!! Everyone tell me what a horrible person I am!!

Anywho, if your granddaughter will feel more comfortable with a flashlight, go for it! She should be able to enjoy rides just like everyone else. I wouldn't worry about other people.

Enjoy!

You've got to be kidding... :sad2:

I'm intregued-people have issues with bubble blowing? Seriously there are people in the world who don't like bubbles?

It's not so much not 'liking' bubbles, it's the people who are allergic to some bubble solutions (like my younger daughter), or the people who do not want a soapy mess to pop on glasses or camera lens, or the people who do not want to get all tangled up with kids trying to get that bubble popped. How about when the bubbles spill in the queue, and now you've got a sticky mess to get around?

I think most people agree that bubbles are fine in an open area, and that it's the confined circumstances of a queue that cause the most issues.

Hey I've got a plan - I'll blow bubbles on the camera lens of people taking flash photography! (But I can't do it with my daughter around, rats!)

I just realized how old I actually am...
Back in my younger days in Disney, people didn't worry about frivolous stuff.

Someone took a picture? big deal, I guess they wanted to capture the moment...

Someone was blowing bubbles? look at them trying to spread some magic.
(if allergic let's just walk around it)

boy with flashlight? kudos lil man for tackling your fears.

people cut in line? so what? guess they really want to ride that ride.. it's only an addition minute or two for us. we're on vacation, we aren't in no rush

We had smokers in lines back then, but hey it didn't ruin our trip.

People are so more worried about others' consideration instead of worrying about where you are, with people you love.

Back then it was about worrying about what you are doing, not what what every other tom, dick or harry was doing.

If you let someone ruin your "magic" it will. If you brush it off and realize that it's just a minor incident in a major scope of things, then your experiences will indeed stay on the magical path.

People are so high strung these days. Unless it puts you on your deathbed, how serious is it really?
