One Direction Tickets!!!

Last year I gave DD her tix as her BIG Christmas gift and she was thrilled. This year I made no mention of the concert and when she was all done unwrapping gifts I told her to check her advent calendar to which she said but it only goes thru the 24th. I had inserted 2 tix with a pin on the advent..She was very excited especially since we are driving 5 hours for the show, staying the weekend and going with a friend!!!

Everyone happy with their One Direction tickets Christmas morning? My DD was very surprised and excited!

My niece(10) declared me "the best Aunt in the world," and DD6 fake-fainted. DD10 actually took it really calmly. I was a bit disappointed in that...

I think sometimes when an event is so in the future they can't comprehend appreciate it. Kids are all so different in their reactions I have learned. A lack of a reaction doesn't mean lack of excitement.

I decided that I couldn't wait to give the tickets to DD. So my older DD and I had a discussion about how we could make it an interesting surprise. We decided to write a poem and turn it into a puzzle. The puzzle was wrapped and hidden at the back of our tree so that it would be the last gift opened. My oldest had been using the Ipad all morning making fake videos of us opening gifts. When the time came to open this puzzle the youngest felt that something was really weird. I told her that it was an extra gift that was also for her birthday. She opened it and was so excited that she couldn't put the puzzle together....it was an 8.5 X 11 piece of card stock cut into 6 puzzle pieces. We made her read the poem out loud for the real video that was being recorded. She got as far as the second last line which included something about 'the best song ever' and she screamed and dove into my lap crying.

We wanted to post the video on Facebook but she has forbidden it....she's a little embarassed about her reaction. She wouldn't even allow it to be shown to her aunt.

It was a great surprise that will remain on our list of memorable Christmas mornings. She is currently making her short list of friends that are real 1D fans that she can invite along if more tickets are available to us.

I agree....once I surprised my DD with a trip to WDW. I had her bag packed and picked her up early from school. When I told her what we were doing she was silent. Then a single tear slide down her face. It was really weird....I expected screaming and jumping up and down.

My DD is incredibly self conscious of her reaction/facial expressions etc. so my surprising her and getting a big reaction on anything I gave up a long time ago. I know she is excited when I heard her describing what I got her etc. to her friends but it is that initial surprise moment she is so self conscious about. For her it is the only child thing...no one else shares the spotlight with her and that makes her feel akward with surprises etc.

Has anyone else finally seen their return on investment for this concert yet?!?! We went to the DC (Nationals Stadium) show last night- it rained just about the entire night, but other than being a little wet and uncomfortable, it didn't affect us at all. The show was a lot of fun!!! I'm no fan girl, just an old mom, but I still enjoyed myself. I thought DD17 and her friends would be on the older end for fans, but down where we were sitting, they were more the average, and some of the girls around us were even drinking, so I assume they were at least 21. We bought our seats from VIP Nation, so we didn't know until we checked in where our seats would be. The girls were VERY pleased when we checked in and got Floor Section 4- the closest to the stage!!! You could see the sweat on their faces- it was amazing. :) Some girls were trying to get us (just the 2 moms) to trade tickets with them so they could sit closer to their friends- not happening. :rotfl:

Security was really tight at the concert, which was good. We had to show our tickets at least 4 times as we got closer and closer to our seats. Then there was a security guard every two rows to keep fans from jumping over gate to the catwalk.

Oh, I'm so happy to hear this! I'm taking my daughter and her two best friends on Tuesday the 19th. Another mom is going with me and we've been wondering how the show will be. We live in Nashville and I'm crossing my fingers for great weather and no rain since we'll be at LP Field! LOL The last several concerts my daughter has been to have been Taylor Swift, so this is her first boy concert! She went to the orthodontist yesterday and got her bands done in red and black for the 1D concert! LOL It's cute seeing how excited they are. Glad to hear y'all enjoyed the show! ;)

We went on Aug.1 and had an absolute blast. My DD is 15 and thought that she was too old to have to go with her mother. After arriving at the show it was pretty clear that most kids came with a parent. We danced all night to the best songs ever!

Funny thing....my oldest DD works for a security company and she worked at the 1D show. Well didn't she get assigned a position along side the catwalk. She was close enough to reached up and touch the guys. My 15yo wanted to absolutely kill her sister.

All in all, we had a fantastic evening out and after the show my DD turned and gave me a huge hug and thanked me. It was a moment that I will always remember.

Long story, pixie dust ending, bear with me...

I was at the rainy concert last night, too. Our seats were pretty good, near center on the first set of seats that rise off the floor, so as close to floor seats as you can get without actually BEING floor, not super-close, but not nosebleed... But I have to say, I think there was something wrong... maybe the rain was causing a problem with the equipment, or someone was being a diva and not wanting go on in the rain (seriously, there are *SO* many good, covered venues around... why the open-air stadium????) because it was over an hour from the time that 5 Seconds of Summer (opening band, awesomesauce!) finished and the time that 1D came on, and that whole time we were in the rain, listening to DJ music (Macarena, Put a ring on it, and even a montage from Grease among the many, many songs played as we waited...) I've never been to a concert with that kind of lag between the acts before.

My 7 year old actually asked if we could leave, they took so long to come on. Then they finally DID come on, and not long into the show, my 11 year old niece started telling me that SHE was ready to go. WTH???

I couldn't very well justify making children stand in the rain not really enjoying themselves just because I'd spent $500 on tickets... so I said ok. But as I mentioned, 1D had just gotten started, and our tickets were pretty good, so I told the girls we had to pay-it-forward, (Disboard style!!!) so we went seeking people with really bad seats to give our tickets to.

As someone else mentioned, security was pretty tight, and we couldn't get up to the nosebleed seats, but I found an employee who thought the idea was awesome, and she said she'd try to find someone who wanted to move closer. It made me feel a little better that our seats would not be "wasted."

We stopped by the restroom and to buy our expensive "babies' first concert" souvenirs, and were getting ready to leave, and a woman came up to me, told me she and her family had to leave, and did I want their floor seats? Well, obviously *I* did, but I had to ask the girls, since they were the ones wanting to leave. (I'm sure she thought I was crazy... do I want a ferrari? Hold on, let me ask my kids...) Well, suddenly they had their energy back, and while we weren't close enough to "see the sweat" like another DIS-er was, we were close enough. :dancer:

So there you have it, DIS-ers. Pay-it-forward in action. Holy Pixie dust, batman!!! :tink:

ETA: My niece (11) is planning to wear her "field access" wristband until it falls apart--the ultimate back-to-school confidence-booster "I was there" accessory! And DD10 said it was "the best night of (her) life!!!"

No, that lag between 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction was was the way the show was supposed to be. We were at their show at Gillette Stadium on 8/7 and had the same "intermission"...songs, videos, commercials and all. Ours wasn't over an hour so maybe weather played some with your show? We only waited at most an hour but I thought a little less actually before 1D came on.

Luckily, we were rained on a few times while waiting for the gates to open but then once the inside the skies stayed clear. It did get chilly (especially since we were way up high) and it took about 3 hours to get out of the stadium parking lot and back to our hotel that was only about 14 miles away, but otherwise it was a great show!

The intermission at our show was also very close to an hour....50ish minutes. We are lucky that here in Toronto the stadium has a retractable dome. It did rain a little before the show so the dome stayed closed. They have to decide a fair bit in advance whether to have it open or closed.

All in all, we had a fantastic evening out and after the show my DD turned and gave me a huge hug and thanked me. It was a moment that I will always remember.

My daughter (14) went with 4 of her friends last Tuesday- they all had to buy single seats because that was all that was available so they all sat separate, one of the parents dropped them all off and then went out to the movies and then picked them all up- it was like a 2 hour drive so couldn't just drop and go home and go get them after it...the funny thing is that they all got the tickets in Dec and by now none of them were really even into going to see one direction, they had all outgrown them and moved onto different music but they had the tickets so they all went.

This is the BEST STORY!!!! What a wonderful night!!!! Thank you for sharing! :thumbsup2

I did think the intermission was long, but it didn't seem to be because of the rain. 1D came on at 9:00, so it seemed like it was scheduled that way.

I know it must have been tough with younger kids though. There was a little boy 2 rows behind us, right on the aisle seat near the catwalk that seemed to be miserable. I would say he was also about 7. The funny thing, though, was with all the screaming girls around us, HE was getting the most attention from the band members. Both Harry and Liam made eye contact and waved to him several times as they were sitting down, and Harry gave him one of his towels. The poor kid would wave back but looked like he wanted to go home and go to bed. :rotfl:

Another thing about the VIP seats, since I know a lot of you talked about buying them earlier on in the thread, is that there didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to where you sat. I guess that's good or bad depending on what level of seats you bought. When we bought our seats, the more expensive priced tickets were guaranteed through row 19, and the 2nd tier was supposed to be 20-39. We had the second tier seats-but our group of three tickets were in row 6 at the very center stage, and the group of 2 were row 18, but directly at the spot of the catwalk where they sat and sang a lot of their songs. The only way you could tell the difference between who paid for what, was the Tier 1 VIP's had VIP Nation lanyards, and there were a LOT of them who didn't have nearly as good seats as we did.

Zhoen, what great Karma! Give something away, and get more in return! Love it! :goodvibes

We went this past Thursday at Gillette Stadium, and had such a good time we went again on Saturday night, too! (Granted, the tickets were much cheaper for the third show.) I predicted when we got there that they wouldn't be coming on until it got dark, and sure enough, it was finally dark right around 9pm and the lights suddenly shut off completely in the stadium, then the band came on and the screaming started, lol. (My ears are still sort of buzzing..)

They put on a great show! I feel badly for anyone who had to sit in the rain, yikes. (Sorry, but) we had two perfect nights weather-wise, and we even saw a meteor Saturday night while we were waiting for the show to start and enjoying the atmosphere. The sheer numbers of people there were amazing. And just about every age group was covered, so don't anyone worry about being "too old", or the wrong gender, etc. (Plenty of guys there.) Liked that nobody seemed to care much, and 1D even thanked mothers, fathers, siblings and friends for bringing their fans to the show. Loved that, and that they still seem genuinely grateful for their good fortune and devoted fan base. Was really touched a few times seeing Dads bringing their daughters and maybe even dancing a little. Most of the people I saw were having a good time, except a couple of really young kids whose ears were hurting. Ear plugs might be a good idea for those sensitive to noise.

I agree with a pp it took forever on both nights to get out of the parking lots at Gillette. Didn't get home until almost 2am because of it. (Not a problem for us, but just warning people.) Next time I'd park in the off-site, "easy out" places even if it cost a little more. One of DD's friends was anxious to get going - on the way in (as we were tailgaiting) and as we were trying to get out. She was like, "That line's moving over there". :faint: (Lines were at a standstill. I think the people having the best times were those tailgaiting and playing ball on the way out.) But that is a stadium issue and not a band issue. Have no complaints about them. My DD is almost 17 and still loves them, and I'll be honest, I really enjoy their music, too, as does my 29 year old married neice, who also came both nights. :p Concerts seem to be a little different than the ones I went to when I was a teen, but in a good way.

Enjoy the show, anyone who's going!! pixiedust:

We go to our concert Sept 16th, I think in Phoenix. Question for the moms- What did you wear? I don't have a clue. :lmao:

Went to the concert with my kids wearing jeans and t-shirt. I was tempted to wear a Menudo t-shirt or a Taylor Swift forever t-shirt but I was not sure if I renewed my life insurance...scared of what the 1D fans may do to me.

Would they even know who Menudo is????

The basic rule is don't wear something that the kids don't like:rotfl2:
