One day with kids in "Hollywood"?

We are going to LA for just 4 nights--we'll do the Getty Museum arrival day, then 2 days of DL, then moving up to Oxnard for the last 2 nights. We have a whole day on Monday and my husband was thinking of doing a studio tour, then Hollywood Blvd, Malibu, then back up to resort to enjoy the beach and pool.

Our kids are 6 and 9 but I now think they aren't allowed on studio tours (non-theme park). Does anyone have any ideas? We are from the East Coast and kids have never been to LA--does anyone have a good one day itinerary idea with no theme parks? Thanks!

I am not a big fan of Hollywood and I'm not sure it's a good choice for a 6 and 9 year old unless you are going to El Capatian Theatre to watch a Disney movie.

I am also interested in this. We have a couple of non-Disney days to fill for our upcoming trip (Nov. 25th - Dec. 3rd). I'm thinking about Santa Monica pier, Aquarium of the Pacific, maybe a beach.... would love to hear other ideas.

We have taken the kids to Hollywood before and I would agree with the previous poster that it was less than magical. We got of the car in some pharmacy parking lot to see the HOLLYWOOD sign. The Chinese Theater was closed for a premier (and not a kid friendly type of premier either). We went to the Disney soda fountain which wasn't all that cool and were accosted by all sorts of creepy people dressed in various costumes wondering if we wanted to take their picture. The only highlights for the kids were seeing a few famous "stars" along the sidewalks and running into some pseudo-celebrities coming out of trailers in glamarous gowns headed for the premier. Otherwise, it was kind of a bust.

How about taking in a movie at the El Capitan, grabbing some ice cream at the Disney Soda Fountain (attached), check out the Walk of Stars, Mann's Chinese Theater, the Nokia Theater, view the Hollywood sign from the mall across the street from the El Capitan, souvenier shop, grab a coupon and head to Maddame Tussauds, drive up Sunset Blvd and Rodeo Drive, grab a map from the souvenier shop and search for the homes of the stars, and/or go to Santa Monica Pier for some beach stuff and/or rides and snacks?

I think most all kids would enjoy people watching at Venice Beach, or the pier at Santa Monica.

My kids love the La Brea Tar Pits.

I want to take them to the Museum of Tolerance, but am waiting for them to get a little older (mine are 10, 7 and 5).

Depending on your kids, it is even fun to drive around Beverly Hills and look at the big houses and the fancy shops.

Also, I think you can do the NBC studio tour with young kids. It's not as cool as a backlot tour, but is somewhat related.
