One Day Trip Without the Parks - Transportation Question

I am considering taking one day from my upcoming beach vacation and driving over to Disney to do some things I normally don't get to do when I have park tickets. I was thinking of parking at Downtown Disney for some shopping and then going resort-hopping and maybe ending with fireworks viewing from outside the parks. Are there any issues with using Disney transportation to get around if you have no resort reservation or park tickets?
