Our day plan: Hit Extra Magic Hour at Magic Kingdom for Fantasyland attractions then to MGM; Back to All Star Music ~2pm for rest; MNSSHP (7pm-midnight)

Our meal plan: Lunch: Sci Fi Diner with PS at 11:30am
Dinner: Pizza night at All Star Music Food Court

Our weather today: Nice, cooler and less humid

Today was THE day…Halloween! We had been planning and talking about MNSSHP for the last several months and had specifically planned Princess M’s birthday trip to coordinate with Halloween. We had debated costume ideas forever, it seemed. Ariel had found Jack’s “Jack” costume as well as my “Snow White” dress and her own “Ariel” dress at the Disney Store a year before we had even planned to go! GM had been putting her “foot to the pedal” sewing up a storm so that everyone would be adequately outfitted. JP and Uncle T took the longest time deciding who they wanted to be, and we had many debates with Princess M who was concerned that certain costumes would not make the “Disney” cut. Finally we had everyone in place…well, almost everyone. GM kept her costume a secret from most of the group. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

Needless to say, we were excited about attending MNSSHP, but we had other exciting plans to do first. We got up early, and after breakfast in GM’s room, we headed (in matching Old Navy flag T-shirts) to attend our first-ever Extra Magic Hour at the MK. We were terribly disappointed when early entry was dissolved last year; we loved using it to supplement our time in the parks and always found that we got many attractions “under our belts” before crowds built. Extra Magic Hour was no exception. It’s always magical to be in the Magic Kingdom in early morning with no crowds. Our main objective this morning was to hit the Fantasyland attractions…so on we went!

As we were nearing Dumbo, we realized we would make the “voyage” flight for the day and cheered! In our excitement, however, we all went up the exit, and, while we were turning into the entrance, Dumbo started up without us! We were jilted! We rode on the second ride of Dumbo that, I’m sure, was better than the first anyway! We also rode Peter Pan (my favorite), Winnie-the-Pooh (after gaining hints from a CM, we finally saw Mr. Toad handing over the deed!) and Cinderella’s Golden Carousel. We had to wait for a photo shoot of two “model” couples to finish in order to ride the carousel and tried to volunteer for a family photo shoot! Alas, the matching shirts were too much for the Disney photographers.

We saw so many characters especially throughout Fantasyland and Main Street today-wow! JP, Ariel, Harry and Princess M spent some time with photos and autographs. We had our first “Queen of Hearts” encounter today when Princess M refused to bow before another royal, the Queen herself! Princess M was quite “put out” and states “We’re at Disney World for goodness sake! These characters should be nice to us!” When Princess M conceded and bowed, the Queen of Hearts relented as well, signing her autograph book and posing for her picture with attitude!
Very funny indeed.

After a long wait for a ride on the Tomorrowland Speedway (a must do with our younger crowd), we rode Buzz again. Yes, we’re addicted. At least we can admit our weakness...they say it's the first step to recovery! :)

Before we left for MGM, we stopped by the Emporium to check out the “just released” mystery Halloween pins and snatched up a bunch. Our lanyards were filling up fast! I never realized how much attention I would get by just wearing my lanyard...people were always commenting on the pins I was displaying.

We had hoped to be at MGM close to opening, but we were having too much fun in Fantasyland! When we ran into waits for our two favorite rides at MGM, we split into groups of four with GM, Ariel, JP, and Jack going to ride Tower of Terror and Uncle T, Harry, Princess M and I riding Rock-n-Roller Coaster. I have to admit the ride was more intense than I remembered from our 2000 trip!

We had just enough time to enjoy MuppetVision 3D…another of our family’s favs! We just love those Muppets!

It was quickly approaching our PS time at the Sci Fi Drive-in Theater Restaurant. Our group was split up-four in one car and four in another across the aisle. We couldn’t figure out why they didn’t seat us in side-by-side cars. JP, Jack, Uncle T and Ariel were so far away that conversation with them was impossible. Almost everyone had milkshakes (on my recommendation) and were not disappointed! They were thick and creamy-yum! Harry, the perpetual “grilled cheese kid”, couldn’t locate it on the menu, but our waitress had the chef make one without a problem.

Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere, the meal and the “Return of the Incredible Shrinking Woman” type film shorts. We did not like the seating arrangements.

Uncle T, Ariel and I wanted to find more mystery pins just released today in MGM and finally stopped by the “big wizard hat”. A nice older gentleman had a list of where all the pins could be found that he got off the Internet (a DISer in disguise?) and shared his knowledge with us. They were all over the Walt Disney World Resort…I think we only got four out of the dozen that were released! You could definitely have spent all day just pin collecting this Halloween!

We probably could have experienced more attractions at MGM, but we knew we’d be back another day. Plus it was really important that we all get some rest. We’d be up late tonight at MNSSHP. Weeks before when we were informing the kids of the plans for the trip, Princess M, immediately upon hearing the word “nap”, went into her “anti-nap routine”. “Can I watch TV?” She’d ask whenever the subject came up. “Can I read? Do I HAVE to sleep?” We came around to using the word “rest” and proclaimed that everyone would be required to do it if you wanted to attend MNSSHP. Needless to say, we all (including Princess M) fell immediately asleep. Hey, having fun is tough work!

You can’t stop now…the fun is just beginning! Check out Once Upon a Birthday-October 31, 2002, Day Three: Part Two “Look, it’s a great big bonehead!”

Great reports!!! Don't stop now!!! Because you're right, I can't stop now! I simply must know what the costumes were...... LOL

We were there at the same time (MNSSHP on 10/31) and my DGDthen7 didn't want to take a nap either! We stayed at AKL and swam until noon and DGD fell right to sleep afterwards. She would've never made it 'til midnight otherwise!
