but probably won't do any good again. This will make our 4th year of trying! The first year it was just a game and had about 200 pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. I sold the normal size ones for just a dollar or two, the tiny ones and ornamental gourds for three for $1, and my giant ones for just $5. Wasn't trying to make any money just had fun. Then the 2nd year snapping turtles destroyed most of them. They just took a bite, one tiny bite, out of each, but then they would start decaying. Did this to my cantaloupes and tomatoes too. I told them I would share but to please pick one or two not every one. The next year we had too much rain. And then last year not enough even though we fixed up a sprinkler system. Didn't make make one! So here we go, trying again. Oh well at least it is fun working in the garden! My potatos, onions, and lettuce are making though. And we just planted corn, squash, okra, and green beans. Also have some tomato plants looking good. Now if my pumpkins will just grow!!!

That brings back lots of good memories for me. My dad use to plant a pasture instead of a garden - green beans, okra (I can still feel the itching!), squash, cantaloupe, tomatoes - a little of everything. I think he figured he had 4 kids, so he had plenty of labor! My sister use to pick the garden in her swimsuit to try and get a tan! We had more produce than we can eat, so we'd take it to church on Sunday's and give it away. That was always fun.

My sister and her husband planted 7 acres of squash this year. I wonder if she'll be picking squash in her swimsuit.... :p

Hope all your plants produce and your gardening season is a happy one!

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look for me, I'll be the one wandering in your Pumpkin patch!! I LOVE PUMPKINS Good luck, post pics I'd love to see! :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

Good luck with your garden. Oh how I wish it was warm enough to start planting. Mmmm ~ can't wait to sink my teeth into a Jersey tomato.

Hi,

Do you live near a lake that you have turtles nearby? Man, there are NO turtles around here , LOL.

However, deer are plentiful and love to eat flower tops and veggies out of one's garden. They will eat anything!

When apple trees are full here in late summer, we see deer tracks in our yard and our neighbors.

Good luck with the pumpkins. I have heard that they are tricky to grow.

herc.

Wow, your story sounds just like my husband trying to farm here! Instead of snapping turtles that take one bite and go to the next, we have woodchucks! We have deer fencing around it that is about 7-8 feet high to keep them out. Due to years with drought, he had to create irrigation with a pump in the creek, and then last year we had so much rain, everything literally drowned! We couldn't even get first cutting hay until July!

We plant pumpkins, corn, green beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Nothing beats farm fresh produce!

Good luck with your pumpkins, Grandma Ellen.:) I've tried to grow just a single row of them for about 3 years now and haven't grown the first pumpkin.

Good luck! Pixie dust headed your way for a good crop this year!! :sunny:
