I don't know nearly enough about stem cell research to say I agree or disagree with the scientific reasons Bush might have. That being said, there was an earlier post in this thread by someone that said something to the effcet of it being another example of Bush not representing America, but his own beliefs.
That is what makes Bush such a bad president. I've just come to realize, when it comes to being President of the United States and what that really means, Bush simply doesn't get it.

I'm not in your boat, but my DH has type 1 diabetes. He's doing well now, but he's also still pretty young. There are many avenues being explored for a cure apart from stem cell research (one that looks promising is an injection of capsaicin--the spicy stuff in hot peppers--to kill pain receptors in the pancreas; it has cured type 1 diabetes in mice). But at the same time, there are so many other people with so many illnesses that it's hard to know what can be cured with embryonic stem cell research. Perhaps it's the best possible cure for my husband's disease, perhaps not.
As bad as Bush is, at least he's just incompetant, rather than actively evil.
