Once a day sun cream?

I find P20 ideal. You can get it upto SPF50 I noticed the other day too. It does smell and can stain clothes, but I just apply it once of a morning, give it a few minutes to dry then that's me for the rest of the day!

I use p20 and have yet to burn in florida and I burn easily but when I used p20 in Malta I still got some sunburn.
I guess it depends also on what you are doing, In florida I am always in and out of shops, restaurants and attractions at the park so i guess I'm not in the sun too long.
Malta was a beach holiday so lots of time spent in the sun hence the still getting burnt.

Crabbie1. My DD is also very fair skinned. I make her wear the sun safe swim suits they are excellent. Not sure I will get her in one next year at age 13 but have managed up until now. No burning in the pool. They basically take away the stress! I've found her shoulders burn whatever we do without her wearing one of these.
Thanks i used to use these they were great but like urs she will be nearly 13 when we go. Not good for their image is it lol. Not cool x

We always use once-a-day, whether in Florida or Europe. Previously we have used P20, now use Calypso as it is considerably cheaper. We have found both of these fantastic products for our family, been using them on the kids since they were babies, never burnt. Excellent for in and out of the pools/water parks, never needed to reapply. The only issue we have now is that our teenage son has teenage skin and all the spots that go with it, and he finds that it stings his face, so we have bought some traditional cream just for his face. I do think it is trial and error with these types of sunscreen, what is good for one person might not work with another.

we use ultrasun which is a once a day application however they do give guidance on reapplying depending on the weather conditions. We mainly use it as myself and dd have hyper sensitive skin and it is the only sensitive brand that we can use that does not look like we are covered in a white film. :)

Last trip I used P20. Started with the factor 50 stuff for the first week then used Factor 20 for the second week. I too made sure I left it to dry before getting dressed and had no real issue with staining. It worked well for me, so well that I didn't even tan at all (and I'm the kind of girl who used come home from holidays looking like a tomato! :rotfl: ). Think I may just risk only taking the factor 20 this year!

We just won't use anything other than Ultrasun now. We've tried the Piz Buin Once a Day, P20 and Boots Once a Day in the past but all have given skin problems (especially for DS) as well as trouble with staining and sometimes we've ended up burning as well. Never had a problem ever with Ultrasun so we take lots with us and mostly use once a day but reapply if we need to. It is more expensive but just so worth it in our opinion. It is easily available from John Lewis, Waitrose, Debenhams, M&S and some Duty Free shops however, we buy it from Multipharmacy (they are based near our home but you can order online and delivery is free over a certain purchase amount) who do the 500ml SPF20 sports pump for £29.75 if you buy one and £28 for multiple purchases. I'm taking Sports 20 500ml pumps for DH and an SPF30 500ML pump for myself as well as SPF30 Face 30s for our 4 week trip on Tuesday. I'll use the SPF20 towards the end of the holiday. The sun is so strong in Florida at any time of the year I just wouldn't consider setting foot outside without covering myself in something I had confidence in.

Thanks for that Mrs TT! I've never heard of this brand and I'm looking into things as I'm taking my DD for her first trip next May. I'll certainly look into this one, as normally we use P20 and have never had any problems (except for clothes staining)...but if there are good alternatives I'm happy to change :thumbsup2

Here's a question we are going in October, obviously not the height of summer but it will be a lot warmer than scotland.

Having checked guides it says it can range from about 17*C to a high of 24*C that sound about right and would a once only lotion work>?

I always put my two in UV rash vests/tops too. Don't bother so much with the long shorts/bottoms as they are getting older - just use normal tankini bottoms.

My oldest DD is in 11-12 year clothes, so I am thinking next year is the last year we'll get UV vests in her size. They have been a godsend in the water as you just don't need to worry about shoulders so much.

Have thought about normal t-shirts but they weigh down so heavy and feel horrible then, whereas UV vests are same material as swimsuits.

I would prepare for temperatures in the high 20s. 17-24c seems awfully pessimistic in my experience. Ultrasun once a day works for us perfectly in much higher summer temperatures.

Hi DLPdreams don't worry you'll still be able to get sun safetops /rash vest for your daughter-all the surfy brands do nice trendy adult sizes. My daughter is 10 but wears an age 12 and will still be wearing one in the pool when we go next year (August like you). Def try the ultrasun-is pricey but the large sport factor 20 gel lasted myself and my husband for 2 weeks and will still brought a quarter of a bottle home. The amount of cheaper brand that you have to keep reapplying can still work out expensive.
Tony Toons recommendation convinced me last year to buy ultrasun and thank you to them for the great advice :thumbsup2

Thanks, and enjoy your trip, noticed on your ticker it's tomorrow :thumbsup2 :beach:

Thanks for that - great idea for the vests! :thumbsup2

My DH and I are both red heads. I burn easily, he doesn't. I use banana boat 110 and reapply at least once. I also tend to stick to the shade. I would never dream of sitting in the sun to wait for the parade unless I had a long sleeved shirt and long shorts. He uses banana boat 20 and only reapplies to his ears and neck. Occasionally I will get pink on my shoulders but am very careful never to get properly burnt. Believe me, I understand burnt. In the early 70's when I was a kid, parents knew no better and I often ended up red raw on the beach. I remember that pain. Never again.

Cheryl, I'm a redhead too and I burn very easily, and very badly :( We actually used Banana Boat last summer, and I burnt really badly, I ended up in A&E with second degree burns on my arms :confused3

I guess some people react better to different types of creams. Have you ever had any luck with brands like Ultrasun or P20? I'm the same with not sitting out in the sun, I always seek shade - are there plenty of shady places in the parks?

There are lots of occasions when you can't help standing or sitting in the sun. I carry a thin shawl type scarf for such occasions or for the back of my neck and wrap it around when it's cold on the air conditioned buses:)

Married to a half ginger Scotsman who can get sunburned in the moonlight.

After 2wks in Florida I had turned from pale blue to a delicate shade of magnolia.

P20 in a high factor worked for us in florida in August and it was really hot!

I would put on extra if at water parks etc.
