Been looking all over the Internet for answers and the end I though I may aswell ask on here and see everyone's opinions :-)

I'm looking for the best once a day sun cream so we can apply first thing in a morning and not have to worry about reapplying all day and carry it around with us?

I've seen mixed reviews on p20, also DBF suffers from prickly heat, we find if he takes piriton a month or so before we go he is fine but if anyone has a sun cream which also helps with that that would be good :-)

Thank you x

If you are going in summer I strongly advise you not to rely on once per day sun cream. The heat is brutal and one can very easily burn.

We tend to use an American sunscreen it isn't a specific once a day one but we only apply once a day.

We put it on in the morning and that's it BUT we are not out all day in the sun and none of us burn particularly easily. We will spray again to cover the areas that previously under clothes but that's it.

I am not advocating this but we have never carried and reapply sunscreen during the day.

We are once a day people. That's the royal we as I rarely wear sunscreen at all I don't burn easily (Slapped wrists for me)

Hubby only puts it on in the morning.

The kids we do first thing but take it with us and if it gets especially hot we reapply LOTS!

That's your choice. Have you been in Florida in summer before? If you're out all day you will burn. If you're in and out you may manage not to burn or at least not feel the damage to your skin. Yet. I carry an aerosol one in a chilled bag. Takes seconds to reapply. I am not trying to be snotty I am just trying to realistic. I am watching my daughters BFs mum (single parent, barely alive), going through chemo at the moment. So I feel particularly motivated to make my point. I am not trying to offend you.

We have used Riemans P20 for 4-5 years now, found it great. Bit off putting at first as it's like a liquid, rather than a cream and has quite a strong smell. Good thing is smell soon disappears and it does it's job. We usually visit Florida Aug/ Sept time and found it does last all day, we re-apply at waterparks if there all day though. They now do in higher factors too. We have quite sensitive skins, son had mild excema as a small child, have to use non- biological washing powders etc, but found it fine on our skin.

Wish I'd discovered it years ago :goodvibes

Not offended. And yes I have experienced the US Summer, as well as many other countries equally as hot.

I just don't burn easily, I have a fairly brown complexion at the best of times. I am not stupid about it. I don't "bare all" and generally wear a hat, so the bits that are easily burnt, face, shoulders are covered.

I wouldn't lay out half naked in 90 degree heat with no sunscreen, but I would walk around MK where I am in and out of buildings, on rides etc all day because in reality the exposure is not so extreme.

But this is my choice based on what I know about me. I certainly wouldn't suggest someone else do it I wouldn't let my kids do it either.

We have used Boots once a day SPF 30 and 50 for the past 2 years in Florida and it has been great.
I looked at lots of different brands and reviews before we bought it. We also use the water play one that lasts for 4 hours when in water parks.

We always use Coppertone Continuous spray SPF 50. A lot of the Americans use it at the waterparks, it's wonderful! We buy it from Publix...think it is about $11.99 a can, but as the name suggests, it sprays continually from any angle, even upside down and you don't have to rub it in, it's just an aerosol, not like the rubbish pump sprays we sell over here, can't recommend it enough. It is mostly once a day, but if we have been to waterparks or feel ourselves getting very hot we apply more.

On our trip to Florida last September we took Ultrasun. It's a once a day cream/lotion/gel (depending on the factor) that is great for sensitive skins. It truly lasted all day, nobody went even a touch pink. It doesn't smell offensive and didn't stain the clothes. We obviously upped the factor when we went to the beach and water parks and did reapply then. Recommended to several friends who have all now tried it and love it. Really impressed and would definately buy again-just using up the dregs now.
Everybody has there own preferences, just got to find what suits you :)

I've just bought p20 for the first time for our August trip, and although it says once a day I still think I'll apply twice especially when we're having a pool day! I won't risk burning and ruining the next couple of days, and I would would like to go home with a bit of colour too :-)

My other half burns quite easy, used P20 other year and didn't work for her, ended up burnt.

Now just wears normal spray on, applies couple of times a day.

I normally apply dark tanning oil in morning, for the day.

I burn incredibly easy... So easy in fact, last year during a trip to the Channel Islands (so, hardly somewhere hot!), I was hospitalised with second degree burns on my arm and shoulder. And that was just after a few of hours walking around the cliffs, wearing SPF30, on a not overly warm day!

I'm quite frankly terrified of our August trip!

Everyone I know has recommended P20 and Ultrasun, and we'll probably buy both in an SPF50... my SO is an island boy, so doesn't burn at all, neither do my nieces. But, I'm prone to go bright red walking to the shops if it's sunny.

I think we're gonna have to carry a little bottle around and I'll top it up every few hours. I'm gonna also try and avoid showing too much skin... lots of light flowly kimonos that'll at least provide some thin coverage on my arms and back. Though, I'm not sure how realistic that will be given the heat :confused3

At the end of the day, I would love to be able to apply once - and trust that statement. But, our last holiday was destroyed by getting burnt, I'd rather carry the bottle around with me all day than risk it.

We use a once a day product. Piz Buin One Day Long and Boots Once have both worked well, although the Boots stuff stained our clothes. DS has eczema and even now as an adult reacts to perfumes in products but neither of these upset him.

We once used a Coppertone kids product when we ran out of our own supplies but that made him itch terribly so we have avoided using anything made by that company ever since.

But we do find we sweat off any product in the August heat so we do carry a small tube or stick of cheaper sun cream to top up noses and shoulders after lunch.

although the Boots stuff stained our clothes..

We found this with their other products too. Both me and DH used one of their continuous spray ones and the kids used a kids higher factor one and we all had stained clothes.

I googled it when I got home and found a lot of people had this problem with boots brand ones so I'll be sticking with a different one in future.

Ultrasun every time!! Buy from QVC and then return if your not happy.
My husband and I use this each year in Florida. He uses the SPF20 Sport Formula and I use the SPF20 Glimmer and the Face30.
One tip is the use the Face30 on your shoulders and decollege while walking around the parks. It's the best!!

Just a note in case anyone isn't in the know.

Many US sun screens do not offer the same level of protection to those we can buy in the EU... If you are prone to burning, buy something before you travel. Best to be safe!

Another whose children's clothing was stained terribly by Boots Soltan Once - never again! Literally, anything light coloured went yellow - horrible and we followed instructions to the letter too!

I have heard nothing but praise for Utrasun. I really want to try it but my gosh, it's expensive! I think we'd need 2 big bottles for the 4 of us for 3 weeks and it's about £40 is a bottle! :scared:

Have heard the gel is better for absorbing but think that comes in the sport type which isn't as higher a factor.

I am thinking DH and I will do factor 30, with children using factor 50.

I know it's not going to be cheap, but if it works.... Sometimes they do combi packs at QVC where you might get a smaller bottle too - ideal for bag for top ups at water parks or those shoulders which always seem to burn!

I have used many over the years being very fair skinned but I have found the
Garnier factor 50 and avon factor 30 the best for me. I also buy a babies equivalent for DD as she is fair /strawberry blonde and it works great though in the pool last time despite several applications over 3 hours she still got burnt on her shoulders. This time she will be wearing a t-shirt in the pool. I have never used an aerosol but sounds a good idea especially carrying it round in our park bag as I have had 2 incidences of leaking creams.

Crabbie1. My DD is also very fair skinned. I make her wear the sun safe swim suits they are excellent. Not sure I will get her in one next year at age 13 but have managed up until now. No burning in the pool. They basically take away the stress! I've found her shoulders burn whatever we do without her wearing one of these.
