Onboard Check-In & Free Bags on Delta?

For our upcoming cruise, we will be using Disney Transportation from the port to MCO, and will also be doing on-board airline checkIn. Our cruise documents say that DCL will add the airline's baggage fee directly to our onboard account. However, we use the Delta American Express card which allows us each 1 checked bag for free. Do I need to do anything to coordinate this (free bags) with DCL in advance? Or will I have to try to get a refund from Delta AmEx later on?

Thanks for your help.

I have the same card and have never had a problem being charge baggage fees. It seems to be tied to the Delta Frequent Flier number which syncs up with the credit card.

In a perfect world DCL would recognize that you get free bags but that doesn't always happen. What we do is go to Guest Services onboard mid week and let them know that we get free bags and it gets noted on our file. I actually bring our United credit card with me so that they know I am not scamming. We have never had a problem. My friend, who did not do this in advance got charged for bags and it was much harder to take care of it after the fact. Be proactive and let them know mid-week to avoid charges. Better to be proactive than trying to fight the charges.

Again, most of the time you won't have a problem but there is always that chance that you will. Enjoy your cruise.

Perfect! I will go to GS, show my card and confirm. Great advice. Thanks.

I've done the same as @mmouse37 but with my American Airlines card. The first year I had the card I didn't do it ahead of time and it was a little more difficult but GS did remove it. The following year I did it ahead of time and there was no charges at all.

Awesome! Thanks!

Make sure to bring your card and a screenshot of the delta luggage policy if you have silver or above status on Delta. We ran into this issue on our cruise in May, as I was charged a bag fee, despite the flights being under my husbands name (who has silver status, so with the American Express card, we receive 2 free bags per person on the reservation). I went to guest services on debarkation morning and questioned the charge, which at first they told me to contact the airline. I wasn't having that, so I insisted they take the charge off as since the flights were reserved under my husbands name and I had the delta credit card, I shouldn't be charged. They finally took the charge off, but wasn't exactly the best way to end the cruise.
My advice, be prepared :)

I do something similar. I take my onboard check-in form to GS, along with a copy of my flight itinerary as documentation showing that I get one free bag per person (highlighted). I take a spare copy with me on the cruise so that I can do this. GS's response has usually been "Perfect, we'll note in your file."

Another great idea! You guys are terrific!

As always, great tips! i will plan to do the same with Delta in November. I really appreciate how everyone helps each other here. I have a ton of strategy to save time, effort, and less stress since my last cruise.
