We did an onboard placeholder booking over 3 weeks ago by putting down a $200 deposit with no sailing selected. We just paid the additional deposit required for booking the specific cruise we want a few days ago.
For the purposes of buying trip insurance, which would be considered our deposit date? I know most companies have a 2 week limit after booking in order to have cancel for any reason or pre-existing coverage, so I hope I didn't miss out on that window.

The date on your placeholder is something nutty like 2034 if it's like mine. I went with the date I moved it to an actual cruise for trip insurance purposes and bought it the same day I did the actual booking (for the real cruise we picked). But that was more so I didn't forget in my 14 day window since I often am close!!!! I have the email with the reservation info saved if it is ever needed.

That said, you may want to talk to your travel insurance provider just to be sure!!!

Thanks. I use a comparison site and called the number there. The rep gave me a list of companies that, for purposes of pre-existing and cancellation coverage, consider date of deposit the date the actual cruise we are taking was booked rather than the date of onboard deposit where no specific cruise was booked. I'm surprised it varies by company, I would've thought they all had the same policy on that.

Can you post the list?

The phone agent told me Allianz, CSA, RoamRight, travel insured and travelex but I did not call each company to verify with them so I can't be sure her information was correct. Travel insured had the best quote for what we wanted so I did call them direct and they verified they go by date of confirmed booking (not the placeholder) before I purchased the policy.
