Onboard activities question

The Wish this summer was the 4th Disney cruise for DH and I and the 3rd for our kids. We went with my brother and his family who were first time cruisers. My kids made their own fun in the teen club but there wasn't much to do for my brother's kids who have aged out of the clubs. We really enjoy cruising because its suits so many of our family's needs and were hoping to convince my brother and his family to try another ship. They are hesitant because of the lack of activities. My question is... are the lack of activities due to covid restrictions or the wish itself? On previous ships there was midship detectives which we all enjoyed but the Wish doesn't have it or any thing similar to it. There was no Mickey 500 on the Wish. Character drawing classes were videos that they had trouble running them. There was no towel folding or cooking demos. For those legal to drink they enjoyed some of the unique offerings but there is only so much drinking that can be done. So do we need to move away from Disney cruises or do the other ships still have enough interesting things to do? thanks!

I haven’t seen Mickey 500 on any of the ships for a while.

I was on the Magic last week and the Fantasy in June. Both had animation classes with real people. They had origami. There was napkin and towel folding and also cooking demos. Both were 7 night cruises.

It may be they just aren’t being offered on the Wish due to length of cruise.

Definitely isn’t due to Covid, I think it’s the wish . Our December cruise on the magic which had a ton of Covid protocols had plenty of activities, our March cruise on the dream had even more, and a lot of live music, and our fantasy cruise in may even more. We were so disappointed by the wish in sept.

I’ll add for example the dream in March was a 3 night cruise and had plenty of actives so I don’t think the length of the wish has much to do with it maybe a little but not the primary reason.

Thanks for the replies so far!

To answer the question, my brother's kids will be between 19-23 next summer, but they aren't the type to go to the young adults gatherings to meet random people.

So it is seeming more this is a Wish issue than an overall Disney issue. Thanks for helping us figure this out.

The Wish is supposed to eventually have the Uncharted adventure... basically the next version of Midship detective agency but using your own phone. It's not running yet. Dream/Fantasy have the mini golf which Wish doesn't have. On our 7nt Fantasy my adult kids did an animation class with a real person leading, a couple craft classes --wind chimes and a 3D Lion King paper craft, a trivia class, Midship detective agency --all 3 mysteries, and the apple strudel anyone can cook. The Magic/Wonder don't have Midship detective agency and mini golf but usually offer enough other activities to keep you occupied.

We've done 8 DCL cruises, all 7 nights on either the Wonder or Fantasy. My dd always found a ton of stuff she loved from ages 6-12. She started to not care about the characters or clubs after 12 yrs old, so I can see how your newphews may have not cared for the activities being offered. We are trying our first cruise that won't be on Disney next summer. We are going on Norwegian's Encore. It has race cars, an Escape room, virtual reality arcade area, laser tag, and several slides that match the Aquaduck. I was hesitant to try a different line, but we're looking for more activity options than DCL offers.
